    Get a grip ! 5th Feb 17 at 10:27 AM
    .....25/11/2018 ......
I have decided to update as its been ages since I started this thread and so much has changed including my priorities.....

We gained a puppy after starting this thread and although she is a handful she has given me something to focus on and to get up for each day.

DS split from one long-term gf and is now several months into a new relationship and started a new job and seems very happy.

Sadly DM passed away suddenly this year and I miss her every day. Then DF was seriously ill in hospital with sepsis and almost died but thankfully he found the strength to pull through and is making a full recovery physically. We are supporting one another emotionally as a family.

I started this thread with the focus on saving some money. That hasn't happened and I have ended up with some debt on a 0% credit card but it is being paid off as planned and I am still managing to pay all bills and still have some money to spend with friends. I am planning to start saving for an emergency fund in the new year 2019.

My car has gone for its service and I've been out for a walk with the dog for an hour. She had a lovely run around on the common and is now snoring in her chair Its sunny and cloudy and windy but no rain so far. I am just waiting for a load of washing to finish and hang out.

I've done an inventory of the food left in fridge/freezer and we should have enough to last till payday. I need to get milk today but that should be all. I have 7 in my purse to last.

I have transferred 100 out of my emergency fund to cover some unexpected expenses due to puppy dog going to vets including printer ink to print the vet claim forms, extra petrol etc. Our vets does not have a night service so you have to take your pet to the night vets in the car ! Then pick them up at 7.30am and take them back to the day vets. I did not realise this when we joined our vet almost 2 years ago and it may be something we need to consider in future. I don't know if this is "normal" for most vets as there were lots of others at the night vets from all different day vets.

I am making some vegetable soup for lunch to use up some soft potatoes which are growing shoots in the cupboard. Tonight we will have a curry, I have chicken, jar of sauce, rice & popadoms & nan breads from aldee.

Well done on having money left 'till payday. It's so good that you are having all these walks. How healthy. You have put me to shame exercise-wise.

What a palaver over transporting puppy from day to night vets! Crumbs. I am so glad she is back safe and sound.

Hurrah for the weekend. Have a good one.

Thanks SW hope you have a good weekend too.

My car came back from it's service with 500+ of work listed to be done I spoke to my B-in-law who knows lots about cars and he says it's not necessary for a car that has only done 12000 miles. He will look at it for me. I did however have to buy a new tyre due to a defect. I went back to the supplier as they are only 8 months old and they are helping me submit a claim for a refund as it seems to be a manufacturing defect. New tyre 42.60 on offer.

On the way home I stopped at the chemist and picked up my repeat, thankfully free. Then I took the dog for a long walk to try and de-stress am so worried about money. It was very windy certainly blew the cobwebs away !! Storm Hannah I believe. It was dry and sunny for most of the day so I got dog towels washed and dried outside. Then I spent the afternoon in front of the TV doing the few bits of ironing hanging around, work trousers mainly. Back at work on Monday.

I cooked a stew in my slow cooker for dinner and have a portion left for today.

Owchy on the vet bill and the car bill front These things really do seem to come along in groups don't they?? I'm so glad the pupper is all ok now though, even if she enjoyed her vet holiday more than you've enjoyed paying for it

I'm also loving the mental image of her prancing around in a kiddie's paddling pool. Despite the fact that he's a CAT and so should hate water, I'm fairly sure my fluff ball would also love his own paddling pool. We had to confiscate his water fountain in the end as it was his favourite play thing and the carpet couldn't handle it (though we didn't realise this until after I'd complained to the company about it leaking and being sent a replacement one )

    Payday

    Petrol 20/40

Food 74.27 including toiletries, loo rolls, cleaning stuff

It's hard to work out a budget this month. DS gf supposed to be moving in. DS has paid for food to 15th when he gets paid. Gf due to move in 24th. Need to discuss payment for first month. We have agreed an amount after that for bills. Him &gf will sort their own food.

Not much done today. Worried about money and it's triggering IBS

Meeting a friend tomorrow for afternoon tea with vouchers which were Xmas pressie from DS & gf.

Skinty, I am so sorry money is causing stress. I know exactly what that feeling is like. Remember you are on a 0 percent credit card and hopefully you can pay off a bit at a time every month.

I hope girlfriend and son can add a bit extra to bill payment so you can use that towards the cc bill. It will still be much cheaper for them than paying full rent for them anywhere else. Can they contribute an extra 50 a month on top of bills?

I hope work is ok and your tummy settles.

Unfortunately the credit card was only 0% for 90 days balance transfers. However I have phoned the 2 vets and the emergency vet will be emailing the insurance company our claim tonight and have marked it as life threatening so hopefully they should pay out most of the claim apart from the 99 excess, the food 2 and the admin fee for filing the claim (!) 15.

The day vets don't have an arrangement to email so they have posted that claim to the insurer. I have until the end of may to pay it off the credit card before interest is charged. May have to apply for a new 0% card and transfer the amount if we cant pay it in full.

I went for afternoon tea today which was lovely. I used the gift vouchers which were an xmas pressie from DS & gf, so me and a friend went free Sandwiches and cakes and trifle and scones with jam and cream and unlimited tea or coffee, in the grounds of a local country house estate. We had a wander round the grounds and the garden centre. I brought 2 cakes home as I couldn't eat them all and DS has taken them to work as he is on night shift. I walked the dog in an effort to feel less stuffed and walk off some of the calories

I'm so sorry Skinty, but I'd echo SWs suggestion about speaking to DS and his gf re rent and bills. Are they able to contribute a little bit more, either as a one off or on a monthly basis?

Afternoon tea sounds LOVELY. It's one of my favourite things to do, but discovering that I can't eat egg (so cakes and any mayo-based sandwich filling are no-gos) has rather taken the shine off it for me!!!

Yay for a bank holiday weekend

I had my tyre replaced this week 42.60 from the bills account. The warranty form has been sent and will take approximately 10 weeks for manufacturer to make a decision ! I won't hold my breath but it round be nice if I do get some money back.

I popped to morresons on the way home from work and picked up a few things for the weekend and DS work lunches for next week. Then I took the dog out for an hour to blow the work blues away it was a lovely afternoon, sunny but not too hot. I hung towels out when I got back and they dried and were brought in before the few spots of rain around 6.30pm. I hoovered the dog carpet and kitchen tiled floor also scrubbed down the patio and cleaned out the paddling pool. I've propped it upside down to dry and will see what the weather is like before filling it again. Probably the usual bank holiday rain

I've fed puppy dog this morning and she is snoozing. I will walk her a bit later. I have mopped the kitchen floor and left it to dry and am back in bed. I may have a bit more sleep DS gf has just come in from nights and gone to bed. They are taking puppy dog for a long walk later this afternoon. I will try for a NSD today.

Week 17 (!) declutter - kitchen cupboard cleared. Old blender blew up ages ago so binned the attachments. Plus a couple of old kitchen items never used - plastic spatula holder, microwave chip pan. Planning to have a good clear out over this weekend !

Well done with the warranty forms hopefully the car cost wont be too much. I hope you can get a 0percent credit card for the vet bills and that will be much better to pay off and less stressful.

Well done on all the washing and plan for decluttering. I am on a tidy up plan too as soon as I finish my cup of tea!

It's sunny here hopefully you will have a fabulous day.

I started clearing out yesterday and ended up on the sofa in front of the TV with the dog must try harder today !! I did mop the floor and sort a big bag of paperwork and I did manage a NSD. We had enchiladas for dinner from a kit bought in aldee instead of a takeaway.

I have worked out my budget (above) as near as possible. Hopefully the food will be less but includes DS to 15th as he gets paid then and he already gave me money for his food last month.

I am hoping to only spend 100 a month on food for just me once we get to the following month. I have factored electric/gas increase and some toiletries/cleaning stuff into the rent (loo rolls, dishwasher tablets, cling film, bathroom cleaner etc).

I am going to try not to think about the vet bills at the moment. DS has had a text from the insurer to say they have received a claim so hopefully by the end of next week we will know how much they are paying and what amount is left and we can then sort out a plan to clear it off my non-0% credit card.

Today I need to do some washing, clear/file another pile of paperwork (mostly bills and credit card statements) Am aiming for another NSD. I also need to cut the grass and chop back some overgrown shrubs which I will do either today (when DS takes dog out this afternoon) or tomorrow.

I think your new budget is looking really good. All being well the insurance company should pay the majority of the vet bill (which is the job we pay them for) so soon you will be able to pay all the cc off and you wont need to worry.

You have as usual a list of difficult jobs to do please do try to rest a bit this weekend your health comes first Skinty.

Maybe if you can do a bit of gardening (not lots) you can enjoy it when the weather gets better. I am so busy at work this is our worst month so I am trying to follow the same advice.

Thanks SW, don't worry I didn't overdo it I "rested" in the afternoon (laid on sofa and snoozed with puppy dog ) We had a lovely walk in the morning then I hung out washing and it clouded over - typical ! It still stayed dry though & dried my washing.

Unfortunately my main oven blew up as I cooked lunch It was a bit dramatic with a flash of light and a puff of smoke ! After resetting the fuses it seems to be the main element that has blown and as I have changed this before I will isolate the electrics to the cooker later and stick my head in with a screwdriver and remove the element. Last time (many years ago) when the last element blew I got one online for about 12. Luckily I still have a smaller top oven /grill and a combi microwave/oven/grill so can manage without the main oven for a while. The hob still works fine too. I hope that's my last financial bit of bad luck !

Week 18 declutter (cant believe its week 18 just gone) - 2 kitchen cupboards tidied & old steamer & various unused plastic pots to go to tip. Another large bag of paperwork sorted / shredded. 1 pile left to do.

Used up some pork loin steaks for dinner, grilled with rice and stir fry veg. Got the last 2 chicken breasts from the freezer to defrost for DS work lunch tomorrow. Using up odds and sods from the freezer to save money and have a clear out before DS & gf start to buy their own food.

    Thank goodness its Friday !

Another new year resolution completed this week, had a check up at the dentist. No additional work needed. 22.70 paid from annual bills account.

I collected a new pair of summer walking shoes for dog walking today also paid from annual bills account. 37.99 reduced from 54.99.

Yesterday I met up with a friend and we went to toby carvery. Lovely food and a good chat, refillable pepsi-max, total 9.98 paid from entertainment budget.

Its been a bit of a spendy week but all accounted for. Looking forward to a relaxing no-spend weekend

Thanks Chrystal. I will be less anxious once we get the pet insurance bill sorted. I phoned the insurer today and there has been a problem with one of the vets sending the wrong invoice ! but that is sorted and we should hear later next week.

I fed puppy dog at 6am then went back to bed and had a lie in this morning. I scrubbed and bleached the bathroom & cleaned the floor then took puppy dog out for a walk. I hung out washing and started weeding the patio when my friend rang and asked if I wanted to go to a table top sale in the local church. So off we set to find that it had finished at 12 ! So we went for coffee and cake instead at a local independent coffee shop. Paid for from my entertainment budget.

It was cold and looked like rain on the walk home so I finished off the weeding and chopped back one of the overgrown shrubs. Thankfully it didn't rain and my towels dried outside. I walked puppy dog again tonight and am now resting !
