Debt at highest: DMP plus overdraft etc £27,500

Debt free date: Today, as I just made the lastpayment on my DMP this morning!

Pearl of wisdom: Don!!!8217;t run headfirst into a DMP until you!!!8217;ve read the forums properly! I had to take 2 months off very early into my plan, as I didn!!!8217;t do token payments / I didn!!!8217;t have an emergency fund to cover something I couldn!!!8217;t avoid. Also !!!8211; if you can face it - keep checking your balance / credit files. Seeing things improve month on month really bolstered me when things were hard, being able to look back at the %age I!!!8217;d paid off and seeing it accumulating.

I can!!!8217;t wait now to start saving for a house deposit so we can have our own home, however being the main breadwinner and seeing the benefit of that for a few months first will be nice!

Pearl of Wisdom:It's a marathon not a sprint. If you have a month where you don't meet you targets don't beat yourself up, regroup and go again, just never give up. Start an emergency fund at the same time, I'm not only debt free today but also have £2,000 in the bank for whatever may be around the corner.

    Lightbulb moment: September 2011

    Debt at highest: Around £20k

    Debt free date: Today

Pearl of wisdom: Sometimes you have to accept you are in for the long haul, keep going it's worth it in the end, dont deprive yourself a little treat now and again.. bottle of wine/box of chocs/some nice bath stuff. It makes it easier to keep focused, otherwise you can easily become demotivated and think you may as well not bother and fall off the wagon (so to seak). Learned that the hard way :-)

Our debt free date is all the more special as today we have exchanged on our new house. This is something that seemed so far off at times during our df journey.

Debt free date: Today (15th September 2017) having been paid

I can't believe I'm here! It seemed so insurmountable at one point. It's been a combination of saving, a promotion and an unexpected windfall to pay the remainder. I will never be in debt again I know that much. Credit to this forum for being an amazing inspiration.

    Total Debt - 76k

    Debt free date- September 2017

Pearl of wisdom - Stepchange literally gave me a light at the end of the tunnel and gave me my life back.

And have multiple bank accounts for different reasons and check your balances all the time - ignoring this helped me get into such a mess in the first place!

Now to enjoy the rest of my life as a saver not a spender!

    I feel so relieved!
    LMB: 4th September 2016
    Debt at highest: £12,757.68
DFD: Today, 4th October 2017, about 7 months earlier than expected!
Pearl of wisdom: What helped me was noting down and keeping track of every single penny. I didn't really notice where my money was going until I saw in black and white how much debt I was in, and tracking it really helped me reign in any unnecessary spending.

Now I can start saving the deposit for my own flat
    Debt at 04/09/2016 = £12,757.68 / Debt today = £0!!
