Birmingham is good choice, and check this for cheap travel! http://www.megabus.com/

But we need someone from that area to tell us where to meet otherwise we would spend the whole day looking for a decent place.

Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Yep, either Birmingham (New Street would be the one for me too 160) or Coventry. Not that I've ever been to Coventry............ but it would be an excuse to tie it in with a visit to an old friend there! :D

I live 5 minutes away from Coventry. My daughter works part time for Premier Travel Inn who charge about £40 a night. The restaurant is closed at the moment for refurbishment as they have been taken over by Whitbread (until beginning of December). However, the Travel Inn is still open. Website is https://www.premierlodge.com/secure/booking/onlinebooking/step1.jsp?x=19&flag=true&newbk=true&y=13&id=78& (click "click here for Lodge information") and  the phone number is 02476 611817.

Its situated outside Coventry in the countryside so you would need a car to stay here. There are other travel lodges here though http://www.travelinn.co.uk/TI/

Cathy, Coventry is cool, and it has an airport! I am going there in two weeks time for a mini-meet with some friends off another website. We are staying at the Ibis Hotel.

It is well worth considering. ;)
