Official Free Boilers and Insulation guide discussion 5th Jul 13 at 3:56 PM
    Hi all,

We've written a new guide on Free Boilers and Insulation, and it would be great to hear your feedback. Please do share your experiences and any extra tips to help others.

If you applied for a free boiler, please let us know ...

    - Which energy provider you called:
    - How long it took to get a free inspection:
    - Were you asked to contribute towards anything and why (for example extra radiators, the boiler needed moving, you didn't meet certain conditions):
    - How long it took to the get the boiler installed:
    - How you found the experience:

If you havenít already, join the forum to reply. If you arenít sure how it all works, read our New to Forum? Intro Guide.

    Thanks for your help,

    MSE Jenny

E-ON are replacing my ancient boiler soon but they have mentioned the radiators are very old and inefficient too as they are single panel. I have MS and my house is cold, looking on EPC the rating is E, are there grants to help towards replacing the radiators or draught proofing?

There are other ways we might be able to help too. If you qualify for support through the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, there could be other funding/services available. Things like Cavity Wall and Loft insulation or help with gas central heating systems where there's no existing gas system. There's more information including an application form on our website.

We've a specialist Affordable Warmth - ECO team who look after these types of installation and it's best to talk to them for a fuller picture of what we can do to help.

    Hope this helps TerracedHouse.

Must admit, I've not come across this particular issue before. If you send details to the email address in my Profile, I'll ask the manager of that area to take a look. As much information as possible would help please.

    Thanks dibdab3.

    Looking for Cavity Wall Insualtion
    Hi,

I'm looking to get Cavity wall insulation installed, however myself and partner and not in receipt of any benefits.
We live in a 1920's/1930's semi detached house, what's the best way to get this looked into?

There's more information on our website. You can also book a survey online.

    Hope this is of interest.

Not on benefits what happened to saving the planet
    Hello,

So a little bit sad as it looks like any free schemes have ended for anyone not claiming benefits, I am a single full time dad who also works and not massively well off due to childcare costs.

Am I correct in that there is nothing that is done for people who are not on benefits?

I have just moved into a house with a floor standing thorn boiler which has subsequently been condemned and my gas supply shut off.
I dont claim benefits, are there any options for help towards a new boiler please?

I bet most of these "condemned" boilers are only because of the likes of British Gas who only use original parts and not patten parts, or other lazy engineers who can't be bothered to source parts.

I know of a boiler that is still running from the 60s as parts are still made for it by various companies. (not my boiler).
