Full aniline leather sofa care advice please

I am just about to take delivery of new sofas. They are full aniline leather and have a wax finish. I have been given a cleaning kit to use on the sofas. The kit contains a "Leather Soft Cleaner" and "Leather Pull-up Cream".
My question is specific to this type of leather. It's the type of leather that easily shows marks and I am okay with that as long as those marks aren't dirt, if you know what I mean.
What kind of experiences have people had and how do you care for your full aniline leather sofas.
I want to try and get it right from the start.
I might add that I have purchased a care package that means that any obvious damage the sofas get is dealt with by a specialist company.

I would be interested in this too. I'm sure that I've seen a leather expert on here before but I can't recall their name. Perhaps someone can remember.

Hi there

I bought a sofa and chair in a burgundy shade in this type of leather about 10 years ago and it still looks as good as new. The only problem I have had has been with slight sun damage. One arm of the chair is in full sunlight for several hours in the afternoon and it was a while before I realised that the colour was starting to fade. I now keep it covered with a throw and have bought some colour restorer which I use a couple of times a year on the faded arm. So just be aware of possible sun damage. This type of leather feels wonderful and it amuses me how people start stroking the leather when they sit down!

What sort of care regime do you have? And have you ever had any scratches or spills and how did you deal with them?

Working in the trade, we sell this type of leather.

A pull up leather is not full aniline as it has a wax finish. Full aniline has no sealant and will absorb everything.

A wax finish enables you to apply heat and with some pressure/stretching you will be able to remove scratches etc. It is designed to give an antique look and will get better with age.

For day to day maintainance just use a lightly damp cloth to wipe anything off. In terms of conditioning, you will only need to do this once every 6 months or so. Follow the instructions on your care kit.

Not had any major scratches but for the odd light fingernail scratches I find if I lick the tip of my finger and rub over the mark they disappear, (sorry if that sounds gross!!). I can understand your concern....going for this type of leather was a big investment for me but I have not regretted it for one minute and anyway if I had purchased a fabric sofa and chair 10 years ago it would have had to be replaced by now probably. I hope you enjoy your new sofas!

Yes it is a big investment for us too and I think that's why I am a bit worried. But your reply has put my mind at rest. Thank you also for the info about your care regime. I think I'm going to enjoy having such a beautiful product in my home. Now I just need to get the room prepared for it's arrival !!!!
