    I don't think the employer can stop people going to the pub in their own time. The employer can have a zero tolerance to alcohol on the job site and potentially have employees breath tested. Not uncommon on sites where there is a potentially high injury risk.

    Get a tent to have another fridge.and freezer.

    Need to push back on how are the company going to provide acceptable living conditions.

    Why are they not working extended hours with the long days to get more free days

    2hours extra a day would get them onto 8/6 rota.

    I don't know how many of them there are but could they club together and buy a second-hand fridge-freezer, maybe? Might your OH and his workmates be able to claim back the cost if the employer is not providing adequate facilities?

    I doubt they want to pay for hotel and travel costs so really, the use of a clapped-out old banger (vehicle, just to be clear) and a decent amount of refrigerated storage space seems not an unreasonable request even if it is not a requirement.

    What about health and safety issues with food becoming unsafe to use? Would the HSE be interested or are they unlikely to trek to darkest wherever to check?

    I find it amazing, in this nanny-state day and age, that this issue arises but it does sound as if your OH's employer is being a tad unreasonable. Does he expect them all to live on Pot Noodles and Cup-a-Soups for the duration? (Other brands of disgusting, dehydrated yuckiness are available)

    So if they were previously using the company vehicles for personal use were they paying car/van benefit for the privilege.

    If everyone is affected, would it be worth a shared runaround car to leave on site (obviously have to drive it there once, but thereafter no long commute fuel costs and just use it for social on site)

    How would he get stock delivered if it's so remote? Maybe he could invest in a refrigerated van, get his work mates to chip in then invoice the employer. Fleet of drones?
