EUR account or cheapest exchange: Pay in cash Euros over the counter

EUR account or cheapest exchange: Pay in cash Euros over the counter 15th Oct 19 at 12:49 AM
So, as title, I've got a chunk of Euros that Id like to get paid into my UK account. It is held in cash, and in an ideal world, I'd rather not exchange it into rubbish GBP at the moment for obvious B word reasons (Brexit).

So, is there a high street bank that offers a EUR account that I can pay cash in over the counter? Ideally, I'd like it to end up in my EUR Starling account somehow, but not sure how I can get it there just yet.

Alternatively, I'm looking for a UK GBP account that pays EUR in at the best exchange rate: rocking horse dung in the past, this one, and always resulted in me using FX companies who work out cheaper.

    Any ideas?

I'd be surprised if any UK banks allow payment in actual Euros into even a Euro account.

I'd personally separate this into two distinct problems and find the best product for each step.

Firstly you need a EUR account capable of accepting EUR cash deposits. I'm not sure of any tbh but I'd be surprised if there wasn't something out there. The second part is exchanging EUR to GBP (or vise versa). Services such as Transferwise or Revolut would be my reccomendations, otherwise see here: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/foreign-currency-exchange/

I also doubt the existence of a UK euro account which accepts cash deposits, and if you find one, possibly Barclays, you'll be faced with fees and lousy conversion rate to access the funds later.

Why not just hold on to the cash if you think the pound's value will decline further (?).

To exchange the cash, Thomas Exchange in London is reputed to give good rates, or use the online buy-back rates tool:

Ok to update others who might end up on this thread, it seems that Barclays provide one if you are already an account holder. Free to pay cash in over the counter and held in Euros.

Not sure about payment charges yet, but we shall see!
