    .....25/11/2018 ......
I have decided to update as its been ages since I started this thread and so much has changed including my priorities.....

We gained a puppy after starting this thread and although she is a handful she has given me something to focus on and to get up for each day.

DS split from one long-term gf and is now several months into a new relationship and started a new job and seems very happy.

Sadly DM passed away suddenly this year and I miss her every day. Then DF was seriously ill in hospital with sepsis and almost died but thankfully he found the strength to pull through and is making a full recovery physically. We are supporting one another emotionally as a family.

I started this thread with the focus on saving some money. That hasn't happened and I have ended up with some debt on a 0% credit card but it is being paid off as planned and I am still managing to pay all bills and still have some money to spend with friends. I am planning to start saving for an emergency fund in the new year 2019.

Morning Skinty, there are so many bugs going round at work I hope the headache will pass and doesn't develop into anything. Stay warm and toasty for the rest of the weekend and try to spoil yourself a bit.

As for the clothes sizes there must be a mistake with their sizing! Some of the sizes are ridiculous I have found. I wish we could back to the old system when you visited a shop and knew their sizes would fit - now clothes are made all over the world and are so different.

I am so glad that you are having some time off and are going to have your father coming down. You two have fun together you do house things but have a great time too which is wonderful to look forward to for you and for us as we know you are happy.

Chillaxe and get well my lovely.

Hope you're feeling better Skinty, and that your dad enjoys all the DIY jobs you've lined up for him this week

I agree with SW - clothes sizes are bonkers. My husband popped into town on Saturday and I asked him to pick me up a pair of jeans from Primark (exact style as the ones I'd just ripped a giant hole in!) but a size larger for comfort as they're stretch jeans. Not only are they more fitted than the previous pair, they are also shorter (I held the two pairs up next to each other to check I wasn't going insane!!). It's such a shame about having to send back the coat though, it sounds lovely

Have had a great week although weather not so good. Have done most of DIY jobs including new felt on shed roof when it was dry on Wednesday.

We had lunch out after a walk along the sea under 10 for 2 meals and 2 drinks. Also curry day at weetherspoons drink & curry 8.20 each followed by will smith film at cinema 5 each. Today we had fish & chips 2 for 9.99 with 2 drinks total 15. Have also cooked at home this week including pumpkin soup from free pumpkin donated by allotment holder next to my dad Tomorrow it's home cooking again liver & onions so very cheap meal.

Today we called at local fencing place for a couple of bits of wood to finish the shed and the lovely guy there gave it to us for free. (I did buy my fence from them)

I also took back the winter coat I ordered for a refund. The same coat was on offer 25% off so I bought the larger size 28.50 instead of 38
It is a bit big but at least I can get loads of layers on underneath and a saving of almost 10

Still within budgets for the month. Have paid another 50 off my 0% credit card. Paid DF for 5 x 15kg bags dog food 121 saving 58.95 compared to previous brand we were buying. Paid by DS included in monthly "rent" as it's his dog !

Am cooking a roast on Sunday one of the few days we will all be home together. Back to work Monday and DF will be leaving for home.

Well done to you and your father for doing lots of useful jobs. The meals out sound like they were delish and real value for money. It's excellent news that you paid off extra money on your credit card too and that DS paid towards doggie food.

All in all it sounds like you had a great holiday except you might remember this weekend to rest in between cooking lovely roasts. I understand though as a week in the right company even if you are working is as good as a rest! and now you wont have to stress about jobs as you know they have been done.

Enjoy the roast and hopefully you will have an extra snooze or two before the weekend ends.

Tried my new coat on and found a security tag pinned through the arm I'm surprised it didn't set the alarm off when I left the store. Had to make the trip back to store to have it removed, but after complaining I was given a 5 gift voucher which I then went and spent on food in store for the rest of the week
So original coat 38 returned for refund too small

Had a lovely walk with puppy dog on the common this afternoon and we shared an apple picked from the trees. It was a grey day but dry and not cold. She enjoyed herself running around

Was very naughty tonight and had a takeaway. The food was delish and was 50% off plus a voucher for 7.50 off too. Part of the order was missing (the best bit, the dessert ) and so I phoned the restaurant but they couldn't do anything so I have to wait for a reply from the delivery company to my complaint email for a refund.

I also emailed the shoe company where I bought my "waterproof" walking shoes as they are not waterproof ! I walked on some damp grass at the weekend and my left sock was wet after I got home and took the shoes off. Not sure I want a replacement if they will be the same, so will see what they have to say when they reply.

Payday is next Thursday. Budgets remaining are

    petrol 10
    massage/physio on neck 20 (this Saturday... can't wait !)
    Food etc 22.27

Food budget is usually 25 a week but I have chicken and mince defrosting at the moment. I will make a shepherds pie & sweet chilli chicken & noodles tomorrow, which should be enough for 4 meals, so 22.27 should be enough for food for me till payday & we need dishwasher tablets.

I had to admit that I have had the heating on the last 2 mornings. It has been really cold at 5am. I was hoping to last until November before the heating was on but its only 15 minutes in the morning at the moment, so I can live with that.

Wet miserable day today, but a bit warmer. Heating is off again !

Went to aldee after work and spent 18.77 of remaining 22.27 including dishwasher tablets & 9 toilet rolls. Should not need anything else before payday apart from more milk.

Walked the dog in the rain then made cottage pie 3 portions & sweet chilli & sesame seed chicken 2 portions. Had 1 portion of cottage pie for dinner nom nom !

I had a reply from the food delivery company and got 11 back Total order was 19 as food was for 2, me & DS's gf as DS was at work, so I am happy with 11 back.

Also had a reply from shoe company and they wanted a photo of the shoes emailed to them so I have sent that and will see what happens next.

I put 10 petrol in the car today which should last till payday. Also bought a packet of chocolate digestives on offer 1 Enjoyed tea and biscuits after taking dog for a walk this afternoon Its been dry but very windy. Got bedding dry on the line.

Shoe company have sent me a pre-paid label to return the non-waterproof walking shoes, I just need to decide whether to get a replacement or a refund. I think I will try a replacement, if they leak too I will then ask for a refund. Am glad its the weekend and I am looking forward to my neck/shoulder physio massage tomorrow

Have not slept well due to howling gale outside however the window seals DF helped me fit last week have worked (6.49 a roll) and at least the curtains are no longer blowing in the wind through closed windows

Why is it the nearer I get to paying off my car loan (jan 2020) the more anxious I am getting. Once it's paid off I can throw that money into 0% credit card then emergency fund up to 1000, then long term savings. Think I am worrying something will come up and cost loads. Boiler has been tested & is working fine. Car MOT is November so I will be happier once that is done. Probably just lack of sleep.

    Plans for today

    Massage
    Walk dog
Make new net curtains for 2 smaller back bedroom windows.

In the summer I bought a net curtain for over my patio doors to keep flies out of the kitchen, but the dog hated it and wouldn't go under or round it, so I plan to cut it in half & shorten it. The nets I am replacing in the 2 bedrooms have been there since we moved in 20 years ago and after 20 years of washing are now starting to disintegrate to dust I like to get my moneys worth out of things

Plans for next few months just posting to feel less anxious as at the moment I have debt and only 100 in my emergency fund.

Balance 0% credit card 648 pay 50 nov, 50 dec, 50 jan = 498 still to pay. Should have 160 car loan plus 100 emergency fund plus 50 usual payment in feb 2020 to throw at this, leaving 188 to pay off in March.

    0% Car Loan was 7500 balance to pay now 1/11/19 160 1/12/19 160 finishes 1/1/2020 140.

Emergency fund 100 + 100 oct 100 nov 100 dec 100 jan = 500. I could use this 100 a month to pay off 0% credit card early but feel happier having a bigger emergency fund.

Once car loan is paid off in January I will throw everything spare at 0% credit card ,then top up emergency fund to 1000 then start long term savings.

    Current balances

    emergency fund = 100.14

    Bills Account 640.58 =
    Dog food 25 (15 pm)
    Annual bills 255 (100 pm)
    Car fund. 360 (30 pm)

    Xmas/birthday = 250.04 (50 pm)

    Long Term savings = 0

OMG Skinty don't beat yourself up. I feel like this quite often but later after the panic is over I realise that we might not have much but we have our houses and jobs and we are saving what we can. We can only do our best and we do. We are miles ahead of other people and behind the millionaires. The people that should be worrying are the one's that have not saved at all.

Pay off the max you can when the cc payment is due (on time but not too early to avoid interest) but do keep 200 in an emergency fund and then work on increasing that. In America they need a 1000 emergency fund realistically we have a great NHS and 200-300 should cover most emergencies or call out fees unless the roof blows off which is highly unlikely in which case we will use our credit cards anyway.

Sorry about the delay in replying - I have been entertaining parents and moving bits around.

Thankfully the weather was dry today but wow it was cold brrrr!!

De-iced the car this morning. Towels mostly dried on the line, not much sun but a bit of a breeze blowing. Finished on airers. Heating definitely on tonight ! 3x 15 minutes kept the chill off.

I have withdrawn 10 from Xmas/birthday fund. Colleague who trained me 30 years ago is retiring at 56. Makes me feel old but wish it was me ! Need cash for his collection and want to buy a poppy. Most things I buy on contactless these days but need cash for these.

I will take shoes to post office tomorrow on way home from work. Postage is pre-paid & I have requested replacement.

15 minutes. OMG no wonder my heating bill is so high. I have had it on for a month almost at least one hour in morning and at night. lol.

It is awful when good people leave work. Well done on contributing to something.

I am supposed to be washing towels but I don't know if its worth line drying. If you are I will I guess. It's blooming freezing. lol.

My house is a mid terrace with cavity wall insulation and holds its heat well. That's 15 minutes in the morning to take the chill off, then 3 x 15 minutes later at 5pm, 7pm & 9pm = total 1 hour. I don't have a thermostat just thermostatic valves on each radiator so 15 minutes on full blast warms the room then another 15 minutes later on keeps the temperature up enough at the moment. In the kitchen/dog room we have the oven on in the evening which helps and at night I sit in the living room with a furry throw. We will have the heating on more as it gets colder.

It's grey and cold here but windy so just put another load of towels out. At least it's dry today, forecast is rain for rest of the week.

I took shoe parcel to post office after work. It's inside the coop and they had 6 chicken portions reduced to 1.13 and braised beef in ale with mash half price 1.40. Couldn't resist, will freeze them and take the money out of next months food budget. Just off for a walk with the dog.
