ESE Solar Panel Free Health Check

ESE Solar Panel Free Health Check 5th Feb 18 at 11:02 PM
Received a letter today marked "Important" from a company called ESE.

"Our records indicate you haven't received your free health check and service on your system and your warranty may be due to expire. Please contact our team to validate your warranty and book your health check"

The company is nothing to do with the installer of our system and I'm guessing is on a sales pitch to sell some sort of warranty. Quite what a health check on non maintenance panels will involve I don't know. Maybe I'm being too skeptical but the letter doesn't fill me with confidence. I'd hope if it was a genuine company it wouldn't be inducing some form of fault that then requires their assistance.

It also seems to suggest replacing inverters that are 5 years old with a new one with a 20 year warranty.

Has anyone had any similar contact from them?
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

BTSA / BT SOLAR LTD Letter
Also received a letter claiming to be BTSA (British Trading Solar Association) addressed to the Howeowner.
Yellow warning symbol followed by IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

    Dear Homeowner

    Re: Your Solar PV System

We are writing to you with important information regarding your solar panels system

Our records indicate that you have not received your free health check and service on your system and your warranty may be due to expire.

Almost all inverters that have been installed during the last 7 years had a 5 year warranty as standard. This means that a significant proportion of those solar installations in the UK have now expired.

Please contact our booking team free of charge to validate your warranty and book your Health Check, quoting your barcode reference number above. (on 0800 0472985 and reference number 780201)

If you received Free solar panels through a 3rd party lease agreement or part of a housing association scheme please accept our apologies and disregard this letter.

In a red panel at the bottom of the page:
    BT SOLAR LTD
    Unit 107a Goodlass Road, L24 9HJ
    Company No. 11249569
    mail@britishtradingsolarassociation.co.uk

The British Standard of Solar with a British lion logo in white.

After reading the other contributors posts it has confirmed my suspicions that this letter is a scam. I will have a look at links above regarding reporting this scam. Thanks everyone.

something to add to the recycling...

It does make me wonder why they think they are complying with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDRP) and whether a report to the authorities by a recipient of one of these letters may cause them to dig very deeply into their pockets to pay what can be very substantial penalties? Just a thought...

Havent had any letter, but have received several phone calls in the last year claiming they know my installer went out of business and they have taken over the warranty, and..... at which point I tell them I dont know who Mr. X is and I have no solar panels.

The first one caught me a little off guard and got as far as telling me there was now a solution to stop me having to buy electricity ever again. At which point I said "batteries?" And she said yes, and I said that is a blatant lie, what's your company name?... obviously she hung up.

Just an update... Although Mum cancelled the appointment with Genmar and told them she wasn't interested, they have continued to call. Luckily they called yesterday when I happened to be at my mum's house and she passed the phone to me. I asked the man a lot of questions about this supposed 'warranty' & he couldn't give any useful answers, then after a bit more prodding he shouted "I don't flipping know, do I? I don't care if you have it done or not!" and he hung up!
Hopefully my mother is off their 'list' now.

I was one of the two original complainants to then ASA about BT Solar Ltd earlier this year. Read the ASA report here https://www.asa.org.uk/rulings/bt-solar-ltd-a19-549757.html

I've just phoned the number and a female answered without saying the company name. When I questioned who it was she said BTSA so they are obviously still running in some form.

The email address on the letters mail@btsa.co.uk does not exist. Indeed the domain btsa.co.uk is not registered at all. This is who they will tell you to email if you ring and asked to be removed from their mailing list. All I can say is AVOID!

NB, Ive informed ASA again under my original complaint regarding the copy of letter to user' Intolerant Goth' above

ESE was so heavily battered by the 1000's of bad reviews on the web about their tactics that they
restarted with the letters as BTSA.

BTSA was so heavily battered again by the Daily Mirror and other reports that the owners of ESE/BTSA
have now restarted by moving premises, new brand etc as RHI Energy Savings

    rhienergysavings.com//

The letters from RHI are worded almost exactly the same as both ESE and BTSA.

When are these guys going to be addressed by the authorities I wonder?

Perhaps submitting complaints to the Advertising Standards Agency and/or Trading Standards by anyone who has been affected by this firm's tactics could be a place to start?

We fell for this some time ago and paid £800 for four years cover, someone was coming over to check the system but after several months they never materialised so we asked for a full refund and actually got it. They have approached us again for the “free health check” and the man is supposed to be calling Oct 16th but we are cancelling thanks to all the info on this site, thanks all Mike. Rowlands.

Hi, just posted this on another similar thread - it is all one scam!

Same sort of scam letters being sent to us for 'free' MOT of inverter, barcode etc etc,'The British Standard of Solar' not real! he is now registered at Preston with this new company. Very difficult to filter the dross on google as our installer was the well respected Evo Energy in Nottingham - they are NOT the same!

pity we cannot stop this as we have seen that some people are being had. Moral - always check Martin's site!

Just an update on the complaint I put to the ASA. They need the original correspondence, which I no longer had as it arrived months ago and before I thought of going to the ASA.

As such the complaint is on hold but if others make similar complaints when they receive and still have the original correspondence (including envelope if possible, I believe) then movement may be seen.

I can't wait to receive another enticing letter...
