Insurance on an import

Evening,

I'm trying to insure my newly imported car. Its registered and I have the V5 with number plate and all supporting docs as well as being taxed. It shows on the DLVA database but isn't showing on any insurance database.

I have found the same car (engine, colour, spec, imported) for sale with a recognisable plate, got a quote for insurance (£1400, had a crash, yes it's alot) but a quote for mine without a plate using the drop down options to tell them what car it is is £1800. I've spoken to the insurance company who have told me they can not insure the car even at £1800 because its not on their system. What should I do?

You can find similar UK cars, but yours is an import and needs to be declared as such which bumps the premium and rules out some (all?) of the comparison sites.

Any comparison sites covering imports?

Try a broker such as Adrian Flux or Chris Knott.

Agree with this.

A number of years ago, I had an imported car. Adrian Flux were excellent for providing me with insurance at a good price, and with good customer service too.
