Council Tax 9th Nov 18 at 10:52 AM
I currently live abroad as a contractor and have done for the last 3 years. My wife lives in the uk and I pay all the household bills.
I have an address in Germany where I live as im registered here and also pay German tax.
can my wife claim a reduced council tax as shes the only one living at our address.
I am only in the UK for 36 days a year.

Probably not, as when your contract ends you will return to the family home in UK.

There have been cases on this, bit I do not have time at present to look them up

I agree with Lincroft - sole or main residence for yourself would have remained in the UK (assuming it's the same UK address you lived in as before you went abroad). Case law on this is pretty settled.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a self employed Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
