My unsecured debt will be clear by the end of 2019. And I hope to be mortgage free in 5 years.

I'm due to remortgage in October so it depends if I take a fix over 3 or 5 years. I think I can do it in less than 5 but not sure if it's worth the gamble.
You can have results or excuses, but not both.

  • My debt free date will be June 2021 but I am hoping to do some F&F's and make it a bit earlier.

    First Anniversary Debt-free and Proud!
I should be debt free on 27/06/2018.

It's been with me since I started as a student in 2007 and went immediately into my overdraft and since then I have had debt in one form or another. At the height of it I owed just over £9000 on different cards and an overdraft.

I feel like I've been in a well all that time. There's been times when I've climbed up to the to and been close to the light, only to drop back down, either due to an unforeseen circumstance or my own folly (buy a brand new £1000 PC, why not!?). At lot of it has been on 0% cards that I've shifted and I think that's why I've been so complacent about it, because I though that as it wasn't costing me money, it didn't matter.

Last year when it was about £7000 over 6 cards I realised I was getting nowhere. I decided to get rid once and for all, so I could give myself some freedom. I've used this site as a major inspiration as well as the Meaningful Money podcast with Pete Matthew, and Money to the Masses with Damien Fahey. I've managed to go into overdrive with repayments due to insane overtime at work, matched betting and cutting my budget down to the bone.

I can't wait to pull myself out and feel the sun.

Started with 42k April 2014 and will be debt free August 2019.

Never thought it would ever clear but we can now see the light at the end of the tunnel.
  • My original debt free date was May 2019 (think it's in my signature) but I've really hammered at this date since September 2016 and I'm definitely on the homeward straight.
I could pay it all off actually with the funds in my account so some people could say that I'm debt free already but I'm trying to build a four month emergency fund for any possible eventuality.
Here's hoping I can keep building it!
