oh I could cry, the boiler part has been replaced but now the pump in the airing cupboard isn't working
The bills at the £300+ vat mark at the minute It was only when I started on this forum that I built an emergency fund into my budgeting, thank goodness I did!
Ok I'm off to play with my spreadsheet for Nov & Dec to see how I can tweak things to get the pot filling up a bit quicker.Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Evening folks!
Congrats CLF on the raffle win and to determinednewms on getting your keys back - must be such a relief!
It’s been a busy day here with half-term week in full swing. Half of me is counting down the days until school starts again, the other half is too tired to count!
Anyway, today we have...
1. Taken kids to soft play. £10.50 for 3 of them (baby goes free) and as it was quiet we were allowed to stay way beyond the usual 2 hours. They also have an outdoor park area so there was plenty to keep everyone entertained. Spent £3.50 on drinks for me and DH. Went prepared with drinks and snacks for the kids so saved there. £14 total isn’t bad seeing as this will be our only paid activity for half-term. Plus, I got in loads of free exercise running up stairs to then go down the slides - DD3 had me doing this for 45 minutes straight!
2. Laundry on quick wash cycle then out to line dry as it’s been lovely and sunny here. Literally just remembered that it was still on the line as I typed this - had to run out in the dark and bring it in! What a numpty! :rotfl:
3. Shop at Mr T - £34 total of which £8 was for a bottle of wine which is part of a gift for sis. Also got £2.50 cashback from coupon apps. Shop will last us until Friday by making good use of stores, but will need to stop at greengrocer for fresh fruit and veg tomorrow. Also picked up the store magazine for the coupon for free pack of Walkers crisps (big thank you to allydowd for posting about that on last thread or I would have missed it!). :T
4. Week’s worth of receipts uploaded to receipt app. Almost able to cash out for £20 but I’m aiming for £50!
5. Baking with DD1 and DD2. Cakes should last a few days and made extra to take when visiting family tomorrow.
6. Lovely neighbour was giving away bucket loads of free apples from their trees. Have got a bagful ready to make a crumble along with some raspberries from the freezer.
7. Made some veggie sausage rolls for girls’ dinner, plus extra in the fridge for a lunch later in the week.
8. DH working this evening but has promised to pick up more free wood on his way home. We have a garage full already but DH wants to be prepared this year. We ran out during the snow in March and then had a power cut so couldn’t even use the electric radiators! Luckily that only lasted a few hours but even so. As soon as the power came back the first order of business was a round of hot chocolates to defrost the kids!
Think that’s about all for now. Have a lovely evening everyone!Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship.

Evening everyone :wave:
Thanks Ally, for telling me what a fool I have been - posting on last week's thread
Congrats CLF, and DNMS on the good news. Sorry it's not been quite so good for you 1LL, but at least you have the EF, and hope that you feel better soon Dawn.
So it is the first day of the half term, but I have still been a busy bunny. Did an online meeting with the exam board - they are the way forward, because I didn't even have to get dressed. :rotfl: It finished a bit earlier than I expected, so I rang my mam and she took me out to the cinema - treated me. It's years since I've been. We saw A Star Is Born and I cried quite a lot... reflection of my current mood I think rather than the actual film, although it was sad.
Other than that, nothing much - spent a bit more time preparing for the fridge delivery then I'm going to have an early night as it could be here as early as 7am...Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

PurpleFairy Thank you for starting this weeks thread :A
This weekend has been interesting, two thirds of the house were without electricity for most of it . We coped with the use of very long extension cables to power the fridge and freezers, relocating the kettle and using the gas cooker. The electrician came today and fixed it, now awaiting the bill. Which will be more than I like and not as much as I feared.
I'm not sure how often I will manage to post this week, still finding my feet with ournnew set up at home. I have subscribed to keep up with all the happenings.

Morning all, I don't usually have time to post before we head off so I'm wondering what I've forgotten!!
So far today I've
* used ys bread roll, toasted to go with ds1s scrambled eggs for breakfast
* stripped beds and first one is washing now, will hang out when I get back later
* run the dishwasher on the quick wash
To do
* take ds2 to free school breakfast club
* go to the gym and fill water bottle whilst I'm there
* check banking/update spreadsheet
* hang washing out
* put 2nd load of bedding in to wash
* and hang out
* have another go at the carpet that dh marked with coffee
* all meals from stores - stew & dumplings tonight blitzed the berries/apple I stewed yesterday as ds2 wasn't keen, so blitzed so it looks different and I've made custard to go around it, all in the fridge to set now - no waste if at all possible here!
* make kids lunches for tomorrow (will do a pasta dish so that I don't have to go and buy bread!) Pasta cooking, salmon cooked just need to cool, add sweetcorn, grated carrot and mayo now
* still no heating on so plenty of layers, candles and blankets
* start our secret packing
** renewed ds2s library books online
**
Thats my start, hopefully I'll be adding more as the day goes on.
Take care allSticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Morning all
Up early as I am looking after GS for a while this morning while his mum goes for her medical appointment (again). Sad to say heating is on it is cold this morning and I don't want the baby to get cold. Never fear though, it will be going off again later! Done, heating off once baby had gone. DD was meeting a friend so didn't hang around for long. Aww, baby points at things now :heart2: Mainly at the few raspberries left on the canes, which he promptly ate :rotfl:
DNMS great news on the keys
CLF, congrats on your win, but I would be scared to use it :eek:
Sorry to hear about your boiler woes 1LL
CCL, enjoy half term
:wave: Hello to everyone else
To do today:
Stewed apple for breakfast fruit - free apples cooked up over the weekend Done
Check banks and update spreadsheet Banks, done, but must update spreadsheet on today's spends
Washing out on line to dry Done
Lamb shanks in SC for dinner Done (yum)
Sort freezer out - I have ordered Christmas stuffed turkey crown from butcher early as he has them on special offer - but I need to make space for it :eek: Ended up defrosting the small stand alone freezer, kept frozen food in the drawers under blankets in the chilly conservatory while I did it. Took ages, many bowls of hot water and much mopping up! Redid inventory of both freezers, decanted some part bags of veg in with other part bags, now there is room for the turkey crown on Thursday :T In other news, OH went out and came back with a packet of sausages :cool:
Really ought to do fridge and larder too, but that depends on how long DD stays with GS :cool: Not done fridge yet due to the freezer taking longer than I had hoped, but did the larder, full inventory, decanting part packets into storage containers, swept floor etc. My goodness, I do have a lot of food Discovered a couple of items that needed to be added to the shopping list though.
Clean bathroom Not done yet
RM survey items to post office this afternoon Done, walked with OH and dog, for free exercise
Took some cookery books to the CS. I have some others on ebay, and any that don't sell this time can also be donated. Still need to look through another cupboard where books are lurking :eek: Seriously though, the books are relatively under control these days. I used to have all my academic ones, but have sold or donated most of those now.
Annoyingly, OH announced last night that he had run out of sweeteners and peanut butter - essentials for him, but rarely / never used by me, so I don't tend to monitor them.. Annoyingly he hadn't put them on yesterday's shopping list :mad: So I will have to get those two items when I go out. But will buy nothing else! Had to add demerara sugar and ground coriander as my larder jars were empty.
Might also have bought a magazine
Hope to get more done, but we will see!
Would really like to get the fridge and the bathroom towel radiator thing cleaned, but am now worn out, so I guess they will probably have to wait till Thursday (babysitting all day again tomorrow).0
