Boiler issue

Options
Hi everyone.

First time posting here... So I hope it's in the right section.

I've had the keys to my new house (mortgage) since 3rd Jan, and everything had finally been moved in today. After a long day of moving stuff I decided to run a bath; the only problem, I can't keep a steady flow of hot water.

Our heating works fine, but hot water seems to be scolding hot for a few seconds, then freezing cold over and over again. I've never had this issue before (although I've always loved with parents until today; so I've never known anything than what we had )

The boiler seems to be a biasi m96.28sm/c2, is this normal? I wouldn't expect so, especially since I let the entire bath run and it's too cold.

Any suggestion? Or do you all think I should get someone out to look at it? (An expense I really can't afford right now :( )

Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to MSE. :)

Have you searched online for the user manual? Was any water being used anywhere else in the property? Washing machine, kitchen tap, anything?

    Thanks :)

I have, but it's already turned up to max temperature.

No water being used elsewhere as I live alone, and the washer isn't on.

Likely the DHW heat exchanger is clogged up with crud and needs cleaning out. Any noises coming from the boiler at all - clicking sound?

Your details about the problem are a bit sketchy but do you have a similar problem with the hot water supply in the kitchen?

Also is your timer for hot water set correctly? you say you have heating ok but hot water is an additional boiler demand.

    More details please

I don't hear any noises, except for the boiler kicking in, and calming down over and over.

The issue with with every hot tap in the property and also the shower (mixer tap).

There is no timer for the hot water, as it's heated on demand.

If it's a combination boiler had you tried reducing the flow from the bath tap , just turn it on enough to get the boiler to fire up.

My old place wouldn't heat the bath water properly unless I did that

Looking at that problem on other forums it's likely a clogged heat exchanger

I'm guessing you are used to a hot water cylinder or a decent size combi, your boiler to be honest is a cheap boiler, try running the hot water slower but if it's still going hot/cold then the plate hex is likely to be full of crap, for the price of it it really isn't worth cleaning out & it would be better to change it, obviously you need someone to look at it to confirm that is the issue but here's a new one on eBay

I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

You've got the same problem as us, a clogged heat exchange.

We have the option now to:
    1. Do nothing and endure hot/cold water during showers.
    2. Order parts and repair/clean current Vailant boiler - ~£500
    3. New boiler - £2500 (Worcester boilet)

Our boiler is approx 15 years old so tempted to replace with a new boiler.

Do your rads heat up okay? If so, then system may not be that dirty. Changing over the DHW exchanger isn't particularly hard if you're handy. Normally 2 screws holding it in. And a new one is around £30 upwards.
