I was planning to buy windows in Poland as a lot of people recommended that. For those windows (triple glazed, both sides golden oak, warm frame, 6 chambers and tilt and turn)

    Window 1 1200 mm x 900 mm
    Window 2 1890 mm x 1200 mm
    Window 3 1230 mm x 1200 mm
    Window 4 1210 mm x 1200 mm
    Window 5 2380 mm x 1400 mm fixed
    Window 6 890 mm x 680 mm

I received quote around 1400-1600. But I read that it is not good idea to buy in Poland and import here anymore. So I got the quote from Everest. Well, their initial offer 18k, and discounted to 9k. Aside from the fact that the man who came to do a quote did it for double glazing against my wishes for triple glazing. Kept asking why I want double side golden oak, why tilt and turn etc, etc. Then I asked him how much cost the windows without installation. He said it is impossible. He tried all the tricks; finance, showing me a sample - that actually made me laugh. It looked cheap, despite his assurance that it is the best window in the market. When I asked him about the size of reinforcement he said he doesn't remember. When I asked about the name of the profile, he went blank saying that it is just a frame and has no name. Also, he claimed that his company does 5 chambers and this is the most in the UK.

I had never met before such unprofessional service. I wonder who buys windows from scammers like them? I asked about the technical specification of the windows. I got summary page without ANY concrete information there ZERO specification.

I will order directly from a manufacturer. Do you know any good/reliable window manufacturer in Scotland?

I'm unsure of the spec and how many chambers are in the frames ive been fitting for the past decade if I'm honest , I know sterling in warrington do golden oak warm frame 32mm triple glazed 70mm T&T . That quote above is seriously low for your spec but give them a message . Probs direct it straight to andy wells the boss . Hi

Do be careful of the big double glazing companies. I just lost my 4600 + deposit with Everest because I signed on the basis of the cool off period date the rep gave me. Ignore the "sign on the day discount and the hard sales. Only sign once you have got other quotes with reputable independent companies and you have read the large double glazing company's fine print extremely carefully. Do keep in mind in summary what Everest told me. ONLY the contract counts and it does not matter what an Everest representative or the customer services verbally tell you. Otherwise you too could too easily lose 4600 plus deposit like me. Im now with an independent. Good luck.

Double glazing network is a fairly good one - you just spec up your windows/doors and then it can give you a price from 3 local fitters. You can build your double glazing quote here.

    Good morning.

We are returning to getting quotes again after lapsing last year when we started looking. We have had four quotes so far ranging from 5150 (local, Dura), 6450 (local, Synergy), 6500 (local, unknown), 7400 (national company begins with C and national tv adverts).

We are looking at 14 windows for a four bed detached house, including a bay window and 6 with strengthened glass, 13 with opening. We are comparing A rated, white upvc casement, standard design, no middle bars are leading etc. All companies have at least 10 year insurance backed guarantees.

We haven't committed to any of them yet as we are still weighing up our options and whether to get more quotes - the cheapest looks sound from what I can gather from online information and the installer has a good reputation.

Could it be any cheaper by further shopping around for the same/higher quality? We haven't negotiated with any of them - this was their opening price. Also, there seem to be different views on the benefits of trickle vents and whether we have to have them? These are replacement windows and the existing windows have them, so we thought you had to (and it makes sense to let some air in?) but a few have suggested not having them as they reduce the effectiveness of the double glazing.

    Thanks

If you want to PM me where they're from I could look at their spec direct . 17.5k sounds a lot for most but a lot depends on the sliding sash part. Is there a subframe and what's coming out etc. . (I'm not interested in quoting for the job just interested what you are getting quoted for) but could give you a ball park .

We have got no further forward with ours, but see they have put their price up to 399 per window in the past week or so, which seems like a hefty rise? Is that still a reasonable price?

On review sites there seem to be comments that the one price only covers one opening window per unit, another costs 70 or so more. There is also mention of a 100 surveyor fee. Finally, from comments over the summer it seems they had applied but hadn't yet achieved an independent professional accreditation from Fensa or equivalent - is a 15 year guarantee secure if it is only guaranteed by the company itself? Is it any more secure if they are in a professional body?

    Many thanks
