  • Its so good to see so many diaries. All the people sorting out their debts. Its brilliant. Not alone with all my debts! I bought the perfume. It was £65 but its lovely. A bit of a splurge to say the least. But I should still manage to stay out the overdraft with maximum effort and make progress everywhere else (ex hsbc credit card, expect slightly up.
£80 of direct debits left this month plus £80 to parents . Plus food, travel, phone, and friends birthday. Payday 3 weeks on friday. Its going to be tight for rest of month!

PSL I know exactly what you mean about paying your parents back. I borrowed £6500 off my parents 2 years ago and have been paying them off £300 a month since I moved last June. I've nearly paid 50% and hopefully it should be paid by next June. Im desperate to get it paid.
  • Good for you hon you do need to treat yourself.

Life can't just be on hold because you are trying to pay off your debts.

I always wear the same 2 or 3 perfumes & I always buy them when I see them on offer. It's usually only Ghost & the Lancome one that go on offer so I get DH to buy the Christian Dior for Christmas!

  • Im so pleased that somebody understands Louby. I dont know what the word is, its not guilt as such but owing your parents makes a feeling in your tummy that you have to make right. Its completely different from owing the bank, I haven't yet paid mine this month, organising that tommorow. I would feel differently if they had inherited lots of money and always been wealthy but all their money comes from hard work and sacrifice so its not right for me to take it and pocket off it.
Dolly I can live without a lot of things but I honestly think I need perfume. Never had to think about what's essential before but smelling nice is so important and I cant forgo that right now especially with an office job and working towards promotion. I will have a look at your perfumes, its so tough to choose them. I like a lot!

Didn't spend money today which I am very pleased about. A friend invited me to a thing after work in london next month. I would like to go but it will be late and ordinarily I would go and stay over in travelodge or similar and love it but I cant justify it right now. Old habits die hard so i did trivago at lunch time and then I had a rational word with myself. Im not going to go and i think its good for me to forgo a few things and have a few consequences from overspending. Need to make sacrifices and progress right now or could end up living like this forever which would be awful. This needs to he short term, get it sorted and then start living like a normal person! • It can be very annoying having to say no to things but it will be so worth it in the end.

I think that's amazing. If you had decided to go you would have spent some mental (guilt) energy on it - feeling bad as you know you should really 'not' go blah blah blah - but the realisation that giving up a couple (but not all - very important!) of these types of things will get you to a much happier place sooner is exactly how you smash this debt thing. Round of applause from me.
This isn't forever, and in reality time passes so quickly, you'll be DF before you know it.

Shall i tell you a secret - I have never ever told my folks about my debt - too ashamed. At Uni I ran out of cash living in France and I borrowed from my Nan as I couldn't face telling them - I paid her back super quick and she was awesome - didn't say a thing and was always there for me. They have no idea now, but I would be exactly the same as you. I think that doing what feels right first with clearing debts is so important as it's motivating. Once you've paid off your folks you'll feel so much better!
  • Ramble that must have been so scary being abroad. So glad you could ask your nan. She would have been glad that you asked and that you felt you could ask. This is definitely the place for secrets. There is loads in my diary the world doesn't know. Plan to keep.it like that thank you for all your support and encouragement. It does mean so much and is si hopeful. Sometimes logicly I know I am making a good decision but my brain doesn't realise it is a good decision (not sure if that makes sense) so having other people tell you something is good can be really valuable. • Hey PSL

Your doing really well. Your questioning and weighting up every spend. Your working hard to progress your career and confidence is something that will help you get there so if perfume if your confidence booster it's worth every penny! Did you use top cash back and shop around for the best deal? I love Angel but usually get this as a gift and only wear it on special occasions as it's quite strong.

You respect your hard working parents for helping your out and want to show then respect back by paying it all back. No shame in that at all.

  • Eak no just went out at lunch and bought it should have done cashback, would have been more sensible. Quick post work drink at £8 today. Food shop tommorow and friends birthday, going to pub with family in the afternoon. Its quite an unusually hectic weekend and annoyingly a bit expensive. Its 3 weeks today till payday, 21 sleeps. Trying very very hard. Not very much of a cushion until the end of the bank account. I know things will improve and above everything I don't want to touch the overdraft. Just need to power on through. xxx

  • Noisiest morning ever at my apartments. Its my own fault for living in town centre but still quite annoying! Going to go to tesco, come home and tidy flat for later. Next month I need to buy a hoover (plus getting hair done- haven't worked out the numbers yet).
I thought that yesterday I hadn't really thanked everyone for being so encouraging. Im not very good at knowing what to do when other people say i did something well or give me a compliment. A collegue told me recently that a good response at work when someone says something nice or says your hair looks nice to say "that's my aim". Its not what im good at! Thank you everyone for being so kind. I suppose it is going well so far which is a massive improvement. I used to say I would do things and then stress about the money, other people have endless pockets and actually what really irritates me is when you go to something expensive, say £50 ticket to gig or theatre or whatever and then the person you're going with always wants to go for an expensive dinner and drinks and you just think er no! I've already committed £50 why do I have to spend more money, but they don't get it, they always want more whereas i think the event is enough.
I think im a bit moody today, need to try harder as its a lot of socialising and i don't want everyone thinking i am grouchy! So I think saying no to expensive undetermined costs socialising is a good move. Today should be quite cheap if I try. got alcohol in, takeaway later and family time this afternoon. Probly will go out for 2-3 cocktails and then home. But its a birthday so its very important and in times gone by would have been a lot worse.
Studying on hold till sunday. Will post tommorow how much was spent. Fingers crossed its a cheap day. xxx
