Attendance allowance guide?

My mother is about to be discharged from hospital and would benefit from attendance allowance. She has always been resistive to this in the past, however reality is perhaps now sinking in.

I'll try to find local services who may be able to assist with the completion of documentation but I suspect this may be thin on the ground. Can someone point me in the direction of a guide in case I need to complete this for her?

Hi I've just done this. I was advised by the Stroke Association to try for attendance allowance, never having claimed for such in the past. I arranged this via Age Cymru who ensured that the claim form was posted to me. Their rep visited me at my home to check accuracy and that was very useful. It was a lot to fill in and I'd done that before she came, and I made sure I put in every last detail, even my application for a blue badge. It worked, I was very surprised and pleased that I now have the financial ability to pay for help for the next 2 years to keep me, my home and garden tidy and cared for. So first port of call is Age UK to ask them to arrange for a form to be sent to your mum, complete it as best you can, it's a book - and arrange for their colleague to visit to check it over. I'm probably one of the few people on the planet who actually likes completing forms (!), so I do a lot of these for friends, and friends of friends, and have volunteered at the CAB.

If you can't get help, the most important thing is to make sure you complete every question as fully as you can, even if one question appears to be similar to previous questions.

If you have supporting documentation from doctors etc, make sure you take a copy of the item, and send that too. And be as frank as you can about your difficulties.
