It is "Doors Open" month throughout Scotland, which means every council area has buildings (old and new) open for free, quite a few are child friendly and have special kids and family events, and most don't need to book.
There are things free guided walks, buildings/ garden grounds which normally cost money (like old houses) open for free, art events, fire stations to explore, sports centres to try out, even factories to see behind the scenes of!
New member, so can't post link, but google Doors Open Day and you'll find an easy to use website where you can search for things near you.
To give you an idea:
1st weekend Dumfries & Galloway, East Renfrewshire, Fife East, Inverness area, West Lothian and West Dunbartonshire
2nd weekend Aberdeen City, Angus, Ayrshire, Dundee, East Dunbartonshire, Fife Central, Highland, Inverclyde, Midlothian, North Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire
3rd weekend Aberdeenshire, Falkirk, Fife West, Highland: Caithness and Sutherland, Perthshire, Scottish Borders, Stirling, Glasgow
4th weekend Argyll and Bute: Dunoon, Highland, Moray, Perth & Kinross
Hope that's of interest to you all
