I thought we all knew that?

It's a trade off IMO, convenience versus privacy, and tin foil hat time, they all do, it's the law in UK to keep all e -mails for, I think, a year, so GCHQ / boys in blue / and any other "authorised persons" can have a nose through

I've had a Gmail account since 2005 and I assume all the messages are read by Google. The BBC article says third parties have access but only if you grant them access.

This isn't news, most email is far from private. Consider it no more secure/personal than sending a postcard unless you use an encrypted one such as ProtonMail.

The same goes for ISPs recording every website you visit, and phone companies storing every phone number you call and every text message (including content) too.

Using a VPN May increase privacy, although it's far from clear whether they are what they claim to be. It is easy for a government agency to setup any number of them...

Avoid 50Twuncle, he posts over the top posts.

It's not Google reading your emails but data firms. A bit like the Facebook fiasco.

If you go to your Google account you can disassociate the effending companies who are collecting your data.

And for the OP's information, I been into computers since the 80's'

I've always assume that many companies read my data and email communications.

That's why I have a low social media presence.

The more I know, the more I see,
    How little I know.!! ;)
