    Well done Clippygirl.

I agree wholeheartedly. There are some crazy diet plans out there. We now know that dieting is useless. I honestly think the best way to stay healthy and lose weight is to cook from scratch, eat well, eat clean. No junk, no crap.

I picked up a cartoon of fat free yoghurt to give it a try. Slimming world magazine recommended it. Took one spoonful this morning, It was disgusting. I will be chucking it out. I read the label (yes i know I should have done that in the shop before I bought it, lol). Guess what, reduced fat but twice the amount of carbs, mainly made up of yes...... sugars.

The whole low fat thing is just a huge con. They just substitute sugar for fat. Lethal for insulin spikes.

Fat has been demonised for decades but it is not the culprit, sugar is the bad guy. Obviously we need to differentiate between good fats and bad fats but fat per se is not the bogeyman it has been made out to be.

Avoid processed foods and you avoid trans fats (the real troublemaker), sugars and salt - the unholy trinity which makes us put on weight and which destroys our health.

We all know this stuff...... we now know that all we need to do is eat healthily and move more.

Just a pity it took me 60 odd years to wake up to that simple fact. :rotfl: Just a pity we have all been led astray by both the food industry and by poor dietary advice from our well meaning medical professionals. Just a pity we had all forgotten what our grandparents knew, ie good food = good health. We thought we knew better than our elders.

When I was growing up during the 50s and 60s we never heard the word obesity. We hardly ever saw fat people, few adults and only the occasional child. Fat kids were practically unheard off, we were like rakes despite eating like horses.

What changed........I think it was lifestyles. Too much processed food and not enough exercise.

The other day I was walking down the high street in my city and I was really shocked to see how many people were really obese. Many of them could hardly walk, they waddled. A lot were also on mobility scooters. Same in the hospital yesterday and same on the cruise.

It is so scary..........so many of these people were young too. Decades younger than me. I am not perfect. I have around 3 stones to lose and it is my own stupid fault. I have been lazy and indulgent, I have only myself to blame.

But.......what I have witnessed these last few weeks, has strengthened my resolve. I am talking about people sick and ill because of their lifestyle choices, their illnesses are self inflicted and it is all down to gluttony and laziness.

i know that sounds harsh but it is the truth. And I include myself in that judgement. :rotfl: no more euphemisms, I am overweight, verging on obese.

Well it is all change for me.......if I do not tackle that 3 stones now, it will creep up to 4 or 5 stones and then where will I be.......diabetes, strokes, heart disease, replacement joints. Not a very inviting prospect.

I did the mirror test again and I have seen the holiday photos. They do not lie. Yes I am well groomed, nicely dressed and I still scrub up well. But.....I am fatter than I ought and want to be.

With the best will in the world perfume, nice clothes, make up and hair styles will not protect me from a future blighted by ill health and a shortened lifespan.

I have a future grandson to think of. :D

Evuka ......Well done on the walking. It’s hard to get motivated sometimes isn’t it. I did manage to restart my walking programme yesterday. My knees were in pain, I had to strap them up first and I only managed about 15 minutes but it’s a start. We have to begin somewhere. I Will do it again today. Rather than go further and longer. I will try 2 x 15 mins and build up that way.

I was actually doing quite well and had built up,to 45 mins but my fall set me back. Never mind I’ll just start again.

SUgarbaby........you too have motivated me, with your busy social life.

    Keeeeeep Fabbing. X

Thank you, LL, not easy to keep up - missed today's as I didn't notice how quickly time flew by so going to exercise indoor soon. Some stretches, hulahooping and maybe some pushups and situps, etc. to strengthen my core.

Sugarbaby, I also feel motivated by your social life! :) I really need to make friends, feeling very lonely since my last friend left the country one and a half year ago... I used to be quite active on meetup.com but haven't attended anything for ages.

There is a restaurant where every Saturday evening is a Ceilidh night - I just need to find someone to go with -, I think that would tick two boxes, fun socialising AND exercise!

I also joined Glasgowclub, there is a leisure centre nearby with swimming pool (and sauna :happyhear) - they have extended their offer to join without joining fee and first month free (I think valid in February but please check it out if interested). I haven't yet been, still not feeling fully energised but I hope to meet some other women (or men ) there who are up for some chat as well.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: OH, MY....! I need to find an appropriate photo for this and make it into a fb cover page or something!!!

:rotfl: typical. If you had popped out sans makeup, hair a mess and wearing your gardening/decorating gear you would have met the world and his wife......ha ha.

Well shortly after writing my post yesterday, I pinged my back so couldn’t go for a walk. Only managed to do a few simple stretches. Thankfully it feels a bit easier today so will try and stretch my legs a bit, even if it’s just down to the corner shop.

    Onwards and upwards. ;)

May I recommend something for your back Lessonlearned?

(***Please note I've no medical qualifications and this is purely based on my experience!***)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZFJpaOD3Cc

Jen Hillman is a yoga instructor and she shows a few stretching exercises in this vid that is safe for unfit people or for those who had some injuries and now want to get back to exercising. She shows options how to make the stretches even easier if one can't do the original ones. You only need a couple of cushions, and two towels.

I came across this video when I had such a knee pain that I couldn't bend in the garden to de-weed. I did the stretches and it improved significantly!

Since then I recommended it to my mother - who was about to go back to her GP to get injections for her hip pain as it was
unbearable for her, she could hardly walk, and after going through the stretches once, her pain eased so much she haven't been back to the doctor ever since (she does this now regularly). Also recommended to a co-worker who wanted to go to her chiropractor but doing these exercises saved her from doing so.

Please, again, bear in mind this is purely on my experience so you may want to check with your doctor.

Like LL says: it's the day you pop out in your old house clothes, unwashed hair and no make up that you bump into someone!

I've made an effort to get out this morning as it's gloriously sunny. Yesterday's exercise was easy as I was dancing but today I had to push myself. All I did was go out to post a card but I made myself go to about three pillar boxes further away than necessary to make it a 30 minute walk. Like evuka, I like urban walking. I'm very nosy so I like seeing what people have done with their houses and gardens.

Thanks for the link to the stretches evuka and thanks Maddie for the NHS link on supplements. Like I said, I'm fortunate in having almost no health issues but I do find that after few hours dancing my knees ache so I'm trying to take preventative measures.

Sorry to hear about your yogurt experience LL. I expect it was Muller Light. I'm sure SW must have some financial interest in that as they're always promoting them. Personally I've never really eaten yogurt until recently where I've been having it with red berries. I enjoy a bowl of berries (defrosted) with plain 0% fat thick Greek yogurt on top. Both come from Aldi. The berries are in a 1kg bag designed for making smoothies (much cheaper than the cartons) and the yogurt is every bit as good as Total. SW have also started making ready meals to cater for those that choose to eat them. Personally I have the time to cook from scratch so prefer to do that. Don't let the experience put you off trying the SW menu plan. It's a really good guide for healthy eating with limited treats.:)

I had a really good night out last night. I wore my long, green silky pleated skirt with a matching cardigan and a cream lace top underneath. I had a compliment on my skirt and how nicely it flowed for dancing so pleased with that.:)

Nothing much else planned for today other than making a lovely roast dinner.
  • Hello Ladies,

Evuka thank you for sharing the beginner's yoga video. It certainly looks as if it will be gentle enough for me, a complete beginner. I have so much muscle and joint pains, that my exercise DVD's are too difficult for me to do, so this looks like the perfect alternative. :)

I did not go out last night, as I was suffering from severe fatigue yesterday and could not stop nodding off to sleep. I tend to listen to my body and it was definitely telling me not to attempt to go out dancing. I went to bed and had a lovely night of sleep. :D

My elder daughter has finally been allowed home from Hospital so I feel a bit less anxious about her well being. :)

My younger daughter and I went to Fancy Funkin Chicken in Brixton for a lovely lunch today. I had bought a Groupon for this restaurant more than 2 months ago. It was such a fantastic tasting chicken burger and fries. The Groupon included a soft drink for each of us. It was very good value for money. I also bought a side order of 8 Funkin I Can't Feel My Face chicken wings to take home. They were so hot that my mouth was on fire. I loved them! :D :j

On Friday morning I was paid a really nice compliment by our current postman. I do not normally make any effort when answering the door to the postman, but on Friday I was dressed to go to my appointment at the Health Centre and I was wearing my wig and jewllery when I opened the door to him. The postman said 'you look different, you look really pretty'. :D I said 'thank you' and it made my day.

    Good morning lovely ladies.

evuka - thank you for the yoga links. Some good stretches there. Glad to say my back pain is easier now.

Snowing here and the forecast is for more so I have cancelled my dentist appointment. It’s not urgent.

Going to spend a quiet day pottering about, decluttering and having a bit of a sort out.

    Stay warm......

Snow in London, although it isn't settling. We've also had periods of sun as well, so its a very strange day.

I bought a new spring jacket which arrived today and I saved £50. I saw the jacket the Debenhams website, but I checked Ebay and found a brand new one for £20. Thanks Sugarbaby - I would never have thought to check Ebay.

I've booked an appointment with the hairdressers for Friday to get my grey covered, which is much needed!!!
