Egg transfer account problem

5 and half k newly stoozed from Morgan Stanley onto my Egg card ready for an SBT. Good so far.

I've also just changed my main current account from Abbey to Alliance and Leicester to partly take advantage of the big referral pay outs. Again all good.

When i then logged onto Egg to do a balance transfer the account number field was too small to enter my A&L account number. My A&L account number is 9 digits long while the field on Egg only allows 8 digits. What??

I sent Egg a message asking for them to change the size of the field but their reply was...

"I'm afraid that we only accept 8 digit account numbers and 6 digit sort codes. Please check with your external bank the details which you are required to use."

Well, I also have a First Direct account but that also has a 9 digit number.

Anyone else have the same problem? My new stooze pot is going to waste!

    These are just guesses/suggestions but...

    Can A&L help?

Do A&L have a "holding" area (using an 8 digit account number) that you can quote? Then move the money from here.

Do you have a partner/parent account you can use to route the money?

    Wow, talk about cryptic numbers.

Here's how you work out your sort code and account number for an Alliance and leicester premier bank account.

    http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/premier-direct/index.asp?page=page1

So you have a sort code of 72-50-0*

    and then a 9 digit account number eg 3* *** ****

You take the first digit from the account and place it at the end of the sort code.
