Death and debt 8th Mar 18 at 6:56 PM
Hi I recently found out that I have Stage 4 breast cancer so not sure how long I wil live. If I die in debt does that debt die with me. I have no joint accounts.

Any debts will be paid from your estate. If there is nothing in the estate, they will go unpaid.

They don't become the responsibility of anyone else.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

If you are in NET debt after taking into account any property, life insurance or pension funds then debt has to be written off.

Any secured debt (such as a mortgage) means the lender will get the security I.e. a mortgage lender will get first call on the sake of a property.
Any unsecured debt will have to be written off.
