As I make very few landline calls nowadays, when I contract is up for renewal, thinking of going with a "landline only" with no call package to reduce the cost
Does this mean I an still receive calls ?

You will still be able to make and receive calls.

You will be charged for making them plus the landline fee

    Define "very few landline calls".

If you make more than about one hour of weekday, daytime calls per month, getting an Unlimited Anytime call plan for around £9 per month will cost less than paying ~22p per call plus ~18p per minute for the same calls.

EE telephoned me because I have been looking at their Broadband packages
The lady confirmed that a land line only means:
    (a) I can receive all calls
    (b) I can make calls on a PAYG rate

Thanks to all who responded to my query

18866 is only available on a standard BT phoneline. Other phone lines have to use an 080x number with higher costs.

We use 18185 on EE. Also worked on plus.net. Of course both are owned by BT now. Some telephone providers may block prefix dialing but some will allow it even if they are not owned by BT.

It is tricky to stop people making the odd phone call though. A quick three minute local call and suddenly you have spent a quid... Even a big sign does not always work...

If you are technical there are voip boxes that will turn all outgoing calls into cheaper voip ones though it may not be worth the hassle.

Yes, I use 18866 on PlusNet
When I asked the lady on EE if I could use this, she said "this is not a facility which we advertise"
I read that as a "Yes" then
