Whilst the general advice is always to pay by credit card for extra financial protection, if you are booking a Thomas Cook package holiday you will be covered by the CAA's ATOL scheme anyway. This guarantees your holiday money back, or a repatriation if overseas.

To your question however, I would say the lead name person's credit card would be best.

Just noticed the comment regarding Thomas Cooks travel vouchers. They are not protected by ATOL or ABTA, only the holidays booked with them, so if you are concerned, use them as soon as you can. If they were to fail, and I doubt they will, the vouchers will be worthless and you will be an unsecured creditor which means you would get nothing.

Who knows? If you have vouchers, spend them ASAP.

  • Hi, I've booked through Thomas cook city breaks and am having many issues! did the payment for the hotel & flights come out together for you? My flight payment still hasn't been taken, but the hotel payment has been taken from my account.
