Second job questions....

I currently work full time, 37 hours per week. I may have the opportunity to work a second job which will be 20 hours per week. My first job is shift work meaning that I get more 'rest days' than a standard M-F 9-5 enabling me to fit in the second job. I don't claim any type of tax credits or benefits nor am I entitled to. My questions are:

1) What are the tax implications of taking a second job?

2) With regards the working time regulations ie) not being able to work more than 48 hours per week on average where do I stand as I will be doing 57 per week.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Well assuming that your personal tax allowance is being used against your 1st job, any income that you earn in your 2nd job would be taxed at basic rate.

Also if the money earned is above the threshold you would also have to pay NI contributions on the amount above the threshold.

As for your 2nd question I don't think the directive applies as its 2 separate jobs with I assume 2 different employers.
