Does temporary absence trigger migration to UC?

I wondered if anyone on this forum could help as no-one from Job centre could.

Couple living in full-service UC area,with joint JSA claim , wife does not sign on Currently claiming CTC for one child.

If wife (only) went abroad for a few weeks (less than 8) would this trigger migration to UC given that CTC allows up to 8 weeks abroad without reclaim.

Possibly because she would have to come off the JSA claim and probably couldn't be re added

I wonder if this would be treated as if the couple had separated?

Then the claimant (OP) would remain on income based JSA and when partner returned they would be added again to the claim as no new legacy benefit would be claimed?

Not quite, it would also depend on what happened to the child and CTC award.

If child goes and CTC ceased, then a claim to UC would have to be made on return.

The decrease and increase in HB and JSA could also trigger a move to UC as well.

CTC is not a problem as the absence is less than 8 weeks.

It's the JSA angle that is the question. Wife would be removed from claim then added on return, but would this count as a change of circumstances?.

JSA claims are unlike CTC in that people can be added or removed from claims without closing the claim down and starting another but obviously with UC in operation they may be changing this rule. just wonder if anyone has any experience of this.

Yes it's a change of circumstance. She couldn't be added to the claim.
