Gaming is totally ageless now! Everybody was gaming since the 80's and the first game was the atari pong which was in the 70's, people have been playing games forever, I used to play cribbage with my grandpa and you can play that online so asking about the age of a gamer is a bit like asking someone their age because they watch TV or drive a car. It's not a young persons thing or any age persons thing it's just good quality entertainment with those who have the time to spend

The quality of hours spent is phenomenal even if you only use it 4/5 hours per week. How much do you spend if you go out for a meal for two in a restaurant that takes a few hours? When you compare the cost with other forms of entertainment and leisure it's almost free? IN terms of electricity it's almost nil plus once you buy a game you can play it for life not to mention the 1000's of free games ( I think there probably are literally thousands if you include all the online browser games)

Shogun II is definitely my favourite. Rome I is a classic, old now but a great game. The latest Warhammer series is very rewarding too, but maybe more so if you are already familiar with the Total War Engine as the combat gets pretty complex.

As it's a very historical game people tend to like the one that's based in the period/place of history they are most interested in, so maybe best start with that! (but maybe avoid Rome II!).

I've read that the Rom 1 is considered one of the best games, they say that the second Rome was not as good as the first. Some older games can be still really good though like for example Command and Conquer Generals is still considered the best in the series and that's getting on a bit now. I've not played it but instinctively know I'd like it after watching my mate play it
  • The only problem with gaming is that it is a definite time sink and life just gets in the way of having the time to devote to good games.

    That's the thing.

Back in my early-mid teens when i was playing FF7 it was awesome and i would spend so much time playing that game, hours and hours. Loved it.

These days i just don't have the time to get involved in an in depth game, which is why i prefer simple games like Mario Kart these days.

I knew someone who lost his job, lost his girlfriend all because of world of warcraft. I know plenty of guys right now some of them mates who go to work, come home and they sit in their room shouting loudly at the screen because they've been blasted by a warlock or an night elf..hahaha it really is a time sink and definitely addictive to a certain extent.

I've both found msyelf going in pubs online drinking online and you think how would anybody enjoy that but I did really love it! And the beer made your computer screen go a bit funky like a drunk effect!:D
  • definitely console, there are no cheaters, but I don't understand why pc gamers hate console gamer

Yes its a big problem for me too - a lot of modern games require a massive time commitment to get good at them and i just dont have that time any more.

Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Motorsport 7 have been great though as you can just pick up the controller and play them for a few races then leave it again until next time.

    I've re visited both PS4 slim+XboxoneS
Cost wise both were excellent value though I'm not convinced that the games are progressing as much.
    Although I didn;t go ahead with a planned i3 build during 2018.
I find myself re considering a new pc build during 2019.
Hopfuly costs have settled slightly as RAM was extortionate last year.
Think I'll consider Ryzen 5 -maybe an RX....gpu (need to read up on the AMD type gpu's -not going high end more medium around 200 pounds mark.
I'll continue to read these forums with interest.

    Only to certain degrees.

IE low end PC graphics vs Console.

If you've got a decent spec PC it can beat the consoles any day of the week for graphics, even on the same game (assuming the devs haven't done a lazy port or deliberately kept the PC version back).

Usually a PC built/bought about a year into the Console's lifespan will have better graphics, even if the PC is only mid range, as console specifications are usually set out a year or more before the launch of the console and then don't get updated (or might get a minor update as happened this time round), so as time goes by the console graphics look increasingly limited compared to the PC ones.

Personally I'm a PC gamer, mainly because I can play anything from about 20+ years back to now on my PC, and can get access to all the small/indie games, and I hate the compromises that are made for console gaming control systems (I don't generally like controllers much for many game types, so with the PC I have easy access to keyboard/mice, controllers from all console types, specialist controllers etc).
