Yeh you're comparing the premier League with the local kids playing in the park

The Americans have trillion dollar (or not far off) valuation tech companies

Not too many Northern Irish software companies, most of them are outsourced American development (well here and India).
I reported to Atlanta, Tulsa and San Jose for a lot of it.
But what would I know ;-)

The Guardian has pretty much declared war on the climate crisis now, and is going to try to 'educate' the US who are still heavily in denial thanks to the anti-AGW FF campaign.

More politics perhaps than energy news, but I remain convinced that if the US ignorance domino falls, then we should see a worldwide uptick in the understanding of just how serious the climate crisis is, and that'll mean lots more RE. GGGgggrrrrreat!

It is so inconvenient that the US is a democracy. The world would be so much better if the clever people were in charge and there weren’t elections where the ignorant people get a say and elect stupid people to govern all of us.

The ignorant people just don’t know what’s good for them. Why don’t they understand that it’s all their fault for working in the oil and auto industries that made us all rich. Why can’t they understand that if they don’t stop working in the industries that their fathers and grandfathers worked in then In 80 years time our holiday homes in Florida will get flooded?

They just won’t listen when we tell them they are stupid. What can we do? We will just have to keep shouting STUPID at them even LOUDER! That should do it.

When people confuse physics with politics then people make crap decisions.

Factor in human nature wrt changing their minds about things and massive industrial distortion of simple facts and you can get to the US's position on climate change.

Complaining that saying climate change is real is somehow a sign of bias is just nuts. Saying flat earth theory is junk isn't biased, it's simple reality. The false rush to treat any two opposing veiws as automatically equal is moronic.

But how do you change people’s minds and behaviour and get them to vote for climate change measures; because isn’t that what you need to do?

Blaming the industries that people worked in is only going to alienate the people you are trying to win over. A large number of people in the US have already seen their jobs disappear in traditional industries and see the AGW debate as a further attack on their values and their section of society. What will climate change policies do for the Rust Belt states they might ask?

A large portion of the population already recognise AGW is a problem and while demonising Big Oil and Big Auto may get cheers from a section of those already on board it won’t win over those you still need to convince. It merely serves to polarise opinion just as it does on this board.

I don't think I can persuade people, not over the internet. I can call out !!!!!!!!, which your claim of bias was, but that won't convince anyone who's made their mind up.

Sadly the reality of climate change will shift in the same way most major changes to public opinion happen. The youth pick up on it without as much baggage and the old die out. Some oldies adapt, some get embarrassed when their grand kids look at them oddly, but adapt or not everyone dies.

The acceptance of the reality of climte change. Honestly I hate this board and the inability to use quotes or edit with Android Chrome.

It's really hard to see how the US will move forward on measures to address climate change. Every time there's a mass shooting millions of voices call for changes to gun law but somehow they still can't seem to get to the point of doing anything about it. How is this same group of voters going to get together to act on climate change. Sorry to say this, but doomed, we're all doomed.....

The dead weight of the US will get dragged along by China and the EU. Now renewables are getting cheaper than fossil fuels the power grid will change very fast. Rail and road transport are more or less solved. Air and sea is harder.

The US could have led the way and avoided us going as high and causing as much harm, but there's no natural law saying they have to lead in all things.

It would appear that we're not quite leading the world when it comes to wind power. We may be taking advantage of it but we lag far behind with regard to our involvement in manufacture and installation. The report below points out how few British company's are involved and that much of the financial support for the industry came from the EU which will end once we leave. Sorry it's not good news this time, but an important read all the same.

The USA lead the world on nuclear power they produce twice as much as France and >10x the UK

The USA has lead the world on shale gas which has lowered coal consumption and allowed the USA to cut about 20% per capita from its CO2 emmissions

The USA has significant wind and hydropower

The USA is the world leader in tech and software which will be the ultimate solution to everything

Without the advanced software we won't be able to do a deep decarbonisation anytime soon
