If you are going with GiffGaff there may be no need to obtain a 4G MiFi, as you will likely only Roam on 3G, according to this list; https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_NepbefbGnYNGNlNWEyZGItYjEwOS00ZTRmLWI3YWMtZWY4N 2VmNTZkZDlj/view

    How much is the E5573?

I bought a Netgear Aircard 785S (refurb - about 50) a couple of months ago for a trip to SE Asia. Brilliant device. Highly recommend (wouldn't want to pay brand new price for it though - about 100).

This will be to use for a few weeks next month and then for two months after the summer so don't want a monthly subscription.
I thought Giff gaff as our mobile phone gets a signal in the areas we will be and friends on Virgin don't.

I've not paid more than 20 for a 4G MiFi. New and used.

For much the same price you could walk into Argos; https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9184989 20

    or 25 with a 6GB SIM; https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9194027

But these are 3G. You might want 4G in the UK.

    Gumtree can also be useful;

Absolutely no need whatsoever to be buying mifi type dongles, extra SIMs, taking out extra contracts etc when you already have the ability built into your smartphone.

So where would that come from, if they don't already have it?

Mobile phone Hotspot is good for occasional use, not for always on, with three other devices.
You'd have to keep the phone on permanent charge and it might get a bit hot.
Then what happens if the one with the phone needs to go out?

Works fine for me, your phone won't get too hot if you're using a decent charger. Wife is doing the same this weekend, she's away competing with the dogs and has my autistic son with her. He'll be online through her phone on his iPad most of the time they're there when not racing. I doubt she turns off the hotspot mode all weekend.

I've done it past at home when changing phone providers, sometimes for weeks.

For France it may be worth looking at free.fr , not in english though but there is info here in English , it seems like circa 30 euros for 100Gb , but you will need to cancel at the end of 30 days. The coverage depends on where you are going of course, but may be worth looking at , I will be since they have a reseller (Maison de la Presse) where we are going

If you are thinking about GiffGaff, it might actually be cheaper for them to get a new SIM, since they get a bonus on sign up. Plus they can start the data plan when they want and not on the renewal date of their current package.

They can buy a MiFi for as little as 10. What happens if the person with the contract takes the phone out, even to sit by the pool? Everyone else's connection goes down.

Just because it is what you do, does not mean it will suit the OP and their family.

Personally, I would look at what is available in France for when it comes to a SIM, as I imagine that you won't get the best performance from a Roaming SIM.
