Abba1772's Debt Free Diary 26th Oct 10 at 11:38 PM
    hi everyone

New on here not new to debt was married for 10 years and we seperated so i took any debt that was in my name and he took his debt

By OMG what a mess got my credit card statement in and it was for 6000 and this was may last year but i've ploughed extra money into this credit card every month and i'm thrilled to say that in 16 months i am just above the 3000 mark

    Debts June 2009
    Capital One Card 6000
    BOS CC 1700
Car Finance This finished in August 2012 @ 124 a month fixed payments
DFS Couch This finishes 2013 @55.63 a month fixed payments

    Debts October 2010
Capital One Card 3245.39 Paying 200 a month into this
BOS CC 1559.81 Paying minimum payment of 34

I have cancelled my Capital One Card so just paying the balance off interest is roughly 50 a month but last year is was over 80 a month so saving 30 already

Also do not have my PIN number of the BOS Card either so haven't spent on wither card since June 2009

My plan is to concentrate on the Capital One Card and if i continue paying 200 a month i will have this cleared in 18 months so it'll be paid off in April 2012 but my aim is to have it paid off before xmas next year!!!!

The the BOS card will be paid off using the excess 200 plus the 34 it'll only take me 7 month to pay that off which by that time i'll only have paid the final instalment of my little car so i'll have 360 a month spare so will whack that into my couch.

well it's a plan and so far i've stuck to it for a year and feel good esp when my ex husband complaining he's up to his eyeballs on debt when he went on a spending spree and bought a 10 grand car

My kids are 8 and 4 and they are even getting into the frugal life my daughter heads to the sale rail of any clothes shop or the reduced counter at supermarkets and she loves getting bargain

    sorry to waffle on lol

I didn't realise that you could sell on Facebook I will have to take a look at that.

Ebay seems quite slow at the moment for some items that we thought would sell so may have to try Facebook. DD sounds lovely, very thoughtful. Kids never fail to surprise me xx

Will be heading over to Facebook to take a look and pre-loved as well. I have so much stuff I could clear out and DH isn't keen on listing clothes on Ebay.

Yay to making money on surveys, I got a few invitations for some last night but I didn't meet their criteria. I am 65p from one paying out, I bet I won't make my tenner for ages

Hope you've had a good day xx

And so you should feel proud you are doing so well. I used to use my credit card like a debit card - its madness. I don't miss anything now.

my ex was like that, he was spending on himself and i was worrying how to pay for it, it was awful.......I sleep so much better since I left I really do. He would think nothing of spending 150 - 400 a time on himself whilst i had to scrimp and save to buy things.....I remember the turning point for me was needing new cups and feeling so guilty for spending 9 on them that I went home and cried....Over 9. I would get my kids their clothes from ebay etc never pay full price for anything.

In a way being made to live like that has made me very frugal now and I am benefiting from it now as this time next year I'll be so close to being debt free and I can't wait whilst my ex hubby will be wallowing in his 24K debt (a 14k loan he took out after i left and splashed it on crap and a 10K care)

Well done on the survey, they are seriously winding me up at the moment. I must have tried about 5 this afternoon and spent about 5 minutes on each before been told that I wasn't suitable.

Its certainly the hardest tenner I've ever had to earn

I've got 3 kids, Eldest is 12 ,younger ones are 1 & 2 years...so i have the expense of the 12 yr old constantly asking for things ( i do say no! but he's persistent lol) and i have the younger 2 at home all day so only expense is on nappies, milk & play groups...and occasional swimming trip if we have money left in the pot. Lol my eldest thinks we are deprived...i told him he has food, clothes on his back and a roof over his head he should be thankful i have turned into my mother with that one line haha

Plus i think this will teach her a valuable lesson on how to manage her money when she's older....i do believe they need to bring in something into the school to teach them the basic function of managing their finances when there older

Totally agree that something should be introduced into schools on teaching kids to avoid debt! My 12 yo thinks that it if he wants something we can get it even if we have no cash- i.e stick it on the CC or the O/D or catalogue so i need to re-wire his thoughts before sending him out into the big wide world with his own money lol, I think it might even be a good idea to tell him we are in debt and that we have to now budget and stop spending so friviously! > i can but try anyway!

I think it would be a good idea to explain to him what debt is and that you have to pay it back as at 12 he'll have a better understanding, Abbie is 8 and she kinda understand...she understands more about making her money spread as far as she can x
