Old pound coins

I've found a number of old pound coins and was wondering if anyone knows what I could do with them short of disposing of them.

I'm not looking for anything for them, would any charities take them? Or should I just use them as "trolley pounds"? (if they even still work for this!)

Can you not still deposit them in your bank account?

Old pound coins worth more than £169m are still languishing in piggy banks, jars or behind sofas nine months after they ceased to be legal tender, said the Royal Mint. Although “round pounds” can no longer be used in shops, they can be returned to banks and paid into accounts,

That article must be well old though - the old pound coins ceased to be accepted in shops some time in 2017

I paid half a dozen old pound coins into my back account last month.

Your bank should still accept them.

I once got swindled with a Swaziland one lilwani coin in my change, which was exactly like a pound coin although with king sobhuza on it. Perhaps you can use your old pound coins in vending machines next time you’re in Swaziland.
