Servicing a mobility scooter

Options
I have a basic mobility scooter that has not been serviced from new (2 years)

The shop that I bought it from is asking £99 to carry this out
Another dealers has quoted £45
What is the actual process / what will they do ?
Check the wheels are tight - what else ?

    In a word “Nothing””
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I have asked the £99 one - exactly what they do
"we oil scooter and grease scooter and put a test on batteries check motor brushes check tyres plus air in tyres if need and brakes and clean the scooter"
    It doesn't need a clean
Brakes - don't exist - its regenerative braking on the motor
Tyres are solid platic - no air involved

So - I am not going to use this company....

just go with the cheaper option.
I doubt they strip the motor to inspect the brushes. motors go on forever.

If it's only two years old does it need servicing?

I paid quite a lot of money about 8 years ago to have my al terrain scooter serviced and asked if i could watch what was done. He tipped it up, squirted wd40 on various parts, checked tyre pressure (my neighbour had been doing that for me) and looked for rust that was pretty much it.

I stopped getting my scooters/wheelchairs serviced after that unless they had a fault.. i know it's sensible and so on but when money is tight I cut corners.. however apart from that beast i have always had 'wheels' that can fit in a taxi and so can be rescued.

To be honest - I don't really know - but the wheel hubs may need tightning up - the steering appears to be slightly wobbly

Hmm if you are noticing problems then it probably does need a look.

I would always maintain 'vehicles' etc when well but as I said I'm on a budget and an annual service stopped happening as they didn't do much.

Have you spoken to the mobility shops.. would the repairs be an extra cost on top of the servicing or part of it?

You might also find a 'kind spirit' locally who will help. I have taken my powerchair to the local charity bikeshop.. it is run as a training scheme and they repair old bikes.. they happily fitted a new 'spoke' for me and have changed my tyres.. all for a fraction of the cost. I've even had something 'tightened up' with no charge (I made a donation ).

I wonder if you have a local garage that would tighten the hubs?

However a syou identify concerns .. I do think you shoudl do something as you initially suggested and not follow my'close your eyes and hope' strategy ;-)
