Does this mean that the Privates/Ratings/LAC's who are paying 20% less tax will get a bill then?

    Typical whining SNP
"It is disappointing that, despite making an offer to discuss the differential taxation of military personnel, the Scottish government has not been consulted on the proposal announced by the MoD."
Nothing to do with the Scottish Government, it does not affect their tax take, it is an internal employment matter. The MOD, out of its own budget, is compensating its employees for an extra cost of being based in a certain location just as they do elsewhere.

Exactly. It's just another form of LOA (Local Overseas Allowance) to compensate for the higher cost of living when on overseas postings.

Pity the UK government couldn't do the same for the British people living in the peoples republic of Scotland.

Other British people chose to live and work in Scotland. The Armed Forces are TOLD to live and work there.

The difference is civilians have a choice, serving people don't. To make up for that the UK government have decided to reimburse those people working in Scotland if they are at a financial disadvantage to their counterparts in England, Wales and NI.

The government are only planning to offer a tax refund for a year or two as well, it isn't permanent yet.
