Lapland. Yes or no

Options
I've been thinking about taking the kids on a once in a lifetime holiday to lapland this year. I was looking at the 3 or 4 days all inclusive where sledging, reindeer rides, husky rides, meals, seeing santa and a present etc are all included.
The kids are 9 and 10.
I cant make up my mind. I'm a single mum so it would just be myself and the kids. Would it be better to have two adults? What prices have you paid if you've been?
Thanks

Can you afford the holiday without having to borrow or cut back on normal spending?

That's great to hear, if surprising for their ages these days.:)

I've not been myself although other family have been but that was grandparents paying. I'd say a good experience but wouldn't be on my top list of holidays if I couldn't afford several per year. And last year there were problems with day trips cancelled because of lack of snow.

I'd say your children would get more from a sunshine holiday where they could swim every day and take part in activities and if you went somewhere with a good history (like parts of Greece and Turkey) they could soak up a bit of culture too and treat themselves cheaply at the markets.

You could always have a day out somewhere at Christmas.
    Just an opinion.:)

I live on an island way up north so the kids tend to be kids for that little bit longer.

I got quotes and it was going to be approx £2700 for the three of us and i could afford that. This is why I'm so torn. Its a lot of money to spend for a 3 day short break when we could have an amazing 2 weeks in the sun for that price.
So I'm wanting to research it a bit since I'm not completely sure.
I did hear theres been no snow this winter which has also put me off.

At 9 and 10 they could easily find out the truth about Father Christmas by next winter, kids can change in a matter of weeks and suddenly believing in Father Christmas just isn't cool.

Personally I think Lapland is a man made tourist trap, but it's up to you.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

We took the kids to Lapland when they were 6 and 8. Our son, because of that, solidly believed in Santa until we had to tell him when he was 10 (peer pressure from school).

It was very expensive but worth every penny, we went for 4 nights and did all the husky sleigh, one horse open sleigh, skidoo etc. It was magical, the snow actually sparkles when it snows.

We did have to take out Christmas presents for Santa to give them, but that meant they got what they wanted, and Santa had their letters in front of him when they got to see him.

We dined in the biggest log cabin in the world, stayed in log cabins with their own sauna and a clothes warming room.

It was absolutely amazing, and there was a pensioner couple on the same trip as us and they were having a wonderful time.

I say if you get the chance grab it with both hands, I would go again at the drop of a hat.

When we went the snow suits and boots were provided, we had to take our own gloves, and you do need decent gloves.

I know we paid a fortune, but this was 23 years ago, and I still fill up when I think about it :D

I agree with everything that Enterprise has written. It's a beautiful place, we went when my son was 6 and then 8, he's 23 now!

    Enterprise, where did you stay?

    We stayed here..https://www.santaclaustrips.co.uk/Accommodation/luosto/13/luosto-log-cabins/148/

The beds were the most comfortable I've ever slept in.

That was where we stayed :) Absolutely fantastic, loved the way they did the beds too, built in to the structure of the cabins.

From us I would say it's the best money we have spent on holidays - expensive - yes but worth every penny.

I researched it all for 2 years and finally booked for 3 nights - 4 days. It's not as commercialised as where you fly for the 1 day trips, pretty much everything is provided / thought of, on your search for Santa day it's not crowded, I could go on.

Yes, after having gone a 2nd time to take our youngest, I could list a couple of niggles but I would still do it again as the children still talk about and we went 2 and 4 years ago.

If you do have any specific questions just ask! Sounds stupid but the snow is totally different here and the clothes they provide allow you to play in it all day without getting cold. You will be fine going on your own.
