I kinda agree with most of your points on the way this thread is going, but surely you don't give on the basis of the gratitude you receive? :)
No I don't, but I DON'T give on the basis of ingratitude and rudeness of either those who benefit or their supporters.

My mother can't stand and won't set foot into Tescos...but gives to food banks through her church...

Does that make her a.............(fill in the blanks)...??

That actually made me wince ! Bless your wee mammy , and if she is able, and giving anything to anyone, who can criticise?

We need to be very careful that we don't all turn in to Charity Fascists.

last time i posted a thread on this subject it got rather heated and totally negative, and i'm not rising to the bait this time,if you don't like the idea/dont support food banks etc etc then move along, rather than advertise the fact that you are a complete and utter
    (fill in the blanks)

Sanctimonious, self righteous, rude, arrogant and insulting....you going for the record or something?

Fair enough, and that is entirely your right to choose and no one should try to say otherwise :)

I prefer to pick a place to focus my (miniscule) efforts, regardless.
I do understand though, how some people's attitudes might totally turn one off from a particular cause :)

Tesco are running these again from now until Saturday when they will add 30% to what has been donated.

I'll make no points other than:

    1) If you wish to support this charitable initiative then good on you.

    2) If you choose not to support this charitable initiative then you won't hear a single syllable of criticism from me because that is your choice.

Thanks for reading and I hope this little thread does some good for those who genuinely need the help that food banks can provide.

For the record I will not be donating to this particular charity as I make other choices as to whether or how I support charitable efforts. I don't intend to go into any more detail as I think such matters should remain private.

I'm swimming against the tide here but in Woody's defence I took his comments to be more of a personal reply to post # 2.

These two have a history and I believe there may be a certain amount of bullying going on.

Agree with him or not Woody's heart is in the right place and so please can we cut him a little slack on this one.

There you go again, insulting people for no reason. If I were going to donate, I certainly wouldn't now. I'll give my money to people who are grateful and don't try to make others feel like sh!te.

this is my final contribution to this thread...promise..and i apologise to anyone who feels offended

so people on the internet who you don't know and never will can make a decision for you?? I really don't want to believe you or anybody could be that stupid

and for the benefit of doubt i was trying to suggest that anybody who doesn't agree with food banks should ignore this thread and not pollute it with mindless drivel

donating or not i personally couldn't give a fook,i am just publicising what tescos are doing over the next few days for the benefit of those who aren't aware but do care

I wonder sometimes why i bother, then i remember how many people this shambles of a govt have made poor, but of course its always someone else's problem is it not ?

Food banks are patronising insulting demeaning and dehumanising, needy people should get money, like any other humanising, not like some sub species.

If you truely want to give to the needy vote for a socialist party, assuming you can find one, Greens is probably your best bet.

They can't be a reply to post #2 as I wrote that post and, as Woodbine tells anyone who will listen, he has me on ignore and surely Woodbine wouldn't lie.

Ok, maybe someone quoted me and he read that but that still doesn't mean he is forced to respond or react.

Yes we have history. I have called him out when he compares politicians to Nazi gas chamber operatives and states that he thinks all Tories and all Tory voters should be shot.

Well, call me a trouble maker if you like but I rather think that such grossly offensive and unacceptable posts should be called out and I will make no apology for doing just that.

As for bullying, that is just pathetic. This is just an anonymous discussion forum. Woodbine loves to dish it out but, if he can't take it, he is free to leave and not return.

His heart isn't in the right place. He is so consumed with hatred for Tories and anything other than very left wing politics or opinions that he lashes out at anyone who doesn't agree with his narrow views. He doesn't know the meaning of measured, sensible and civilised debate, as he has amply demonstrated in this thread. He just insults anyone and everyone who holds or posts a contrary opinion.

Woodbine has now made two "This is my final post in this thread" posts already. Will we get a third or fourth final post or will he now do what he did last time?

In the last thread that he refers to he threw a hissy fit and stormed off in a prima donna rage announcing that he was taking a break for a few days. Unfortunately for him he was seen a few hours later reading what people were posting about that.

Is a repeat about to happen?

    And there we have it.

This isn't really about food banks or charity or people giving or not giving.

This is just an opportunity for Woodbine to take another cheap political shot.

Remind us all Woodbine. Who was in government when the first UK food banks opened in 2000?

The Trussell Trust, who run most of our food banks, was set up under a Labour government.
