Apologies if I'm pointing out what you know already but you do know that teeth straightening (whether using Invisalign or anything else) is quite painful don't you? I know you already suffer from dental pain to a high degree.

I didn't have underlying dental problems like yours and when I had Invisalign treatment and other orthodontic work I found it quite unpleasant for 4-5 days each time the retainer was changed (adjusted for non invisalign work) and had to modify what I ate. My son had occasionally to take painkillers when his train tracks were tightened and his gums were sometimes quite raw for a few days.

Yes, that is a concern too.

Was it a specialist orthodontist who gave you this opinion, or a general dentist who has done an Invisalign course?

That 'opinion' reads like Invisalign marketing blurb more than a considered diagnosis of your problem and a balanced discussion of alternate treatments. It sounds like whoever has done it doesn't know which form of treatment will be necessary, and so will have to wait for the company to decide which treatment they sell you.

You would get a much better opinion from a proper specialist orthodontist.

I suspect the latter (a general dentist who has done an Invisalign course).

A specialist orthodontist may be the way to go, though many of them use Invisalign too. I will, however, probably try get the opinion of one.

Getting braces tightened is agony, I have cluster headaches and it was really sore when I was in cluster and being tightened up. Having to wax your red raw inside of your mouth is a whole new experience in the pain stakes.

Oh my goodness! That doesn't sound good at all. I'm beginning to wonder if it is all going to be worth the (additional) agony and financial cost.

Anyone know if there is a risk that my central incisor may crack too? It has had root canal treatment (making it more brittle) and apical surgery.

You must have been told at some point from all the dentists that you've consulted that such a tooth is considered to have a poor prognosis - so yes, it is highly likely something will go wrong with it at some point. You shouldn't have to ask random strangers on the internet this stuff.

It would also need very careful consideration to see if moving it with braces could be considered safe - so I'm surprised your Invisalign 'consultation' didn't pick up on it.

It still strikes me that you are launching into major treatments with no proper, considered 'holistic' treatment plan.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Nope, no dentist I have seen (and I have seen many) have told me that the tooth is doomed.

I never had a face-to-face consultation - I only made an online enquiry.

I think the first step is to consider if orthodontic treatment would be both affordable and viable - something I am quite clearly researching here.

You really need to sit down face to face with an orthodontist and let them do the computer model with the different systems so you can see what exactly they see in your mouth, what your options are, what each option will give you in terms of outcome and what each will cost.

I've recently had my bone graft and to say my face was swollen like a chipmunk is an understatement!

I'm going to see an Orthodontist as soon as things heal a bit. I understand a consultation is going to cost me around £100.

My consultation was around £50 and that included a 'panoramic' X-ray ...this was with an implant specialist dental practise, they have written up a whole treatment plan with different stages of work and recovery times, as I too have bone loss in one jaw ...
