1 August 2010 12 noon - 7 pm
A cultural explosion led by our local community. We are investing in our community’s potential to help create a legacy of raised aspiration and increased creative and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Our festival, held on the first Saturday of August each year, celebrates the diversity of our community; its progress through the years and the fusion of numerous ethnic groups which now call Brixton home. Ours is a cultural festival that combines a fascinating mix of music, arts and crafts, food, live music, theatre, dance performances and sound systems that celebrates local talent. The Festival includes soundsystems, a main stage, craft and food stalls and a family and arts area this year and includes many of Brixton's most famous landmarks:
Windrush Square
The Peace Gardens
Electric Avenue
Coldharbour Lane

Best freebie: Lynton and Lynmouth music festival
Lynton and Lynmouth, north Devon, 11-13 June
Headliners: Thea Gilmore, Babyhead, Andy Votel
We say: Known as Llama for short, this terrific event takes over two beautiful north Devon towns, filling their pubs, halls, streets, churches and cinema with what the organisers describe as "high-quality cutting-edge music", be it folk, rock'n'roll, bhangra, punk or pop. And that entertainment won't cost you a bean: just turn up and enjoy. You should, though, book your accommodation before you arrive (check the website for options from campsites to hotels).
They say: "The festival is run completely by volunteers, with money raised throughout the year. There is no fence to patrol or tickets to check, so it's a free festival in all senses of the word. The site combines the best bits of Glastonbury with typical English seaside charm. The two towns are connected by a Victorian water-powered railway. I think it's safe to say that there is nowhere like it in the world." Keith Blackwell, co-organiser
At Lynton and Lynmouth, north Devon, 11-13 June, free. Details: http://www.llama.org.uk/

Ejectorseat Arts Festival, Southampton.
Not allowed to post the link because i'm a new user, but it comes up with a google search
Press Release:
EjectorSeat Presents: Arts Festival at the Pavilion.
Turning the parks into a hub of cultural activity.
Date: Saturday 5th June 2010. Location: Palmerston Park, Southampton
EjectorSeat will be transforming Palmerston Park into a gallery of Southampton’s arts and media culture and musical talent - For one day only artists will have a chance to showcase what they can do in a public space.
A range of local bands will be performing at the Bandstand - collaborating with choirs and orchestras; and there will be a drumming workshop and performance, bringing together professionals and complete beginners alike.
A Film Tent with help from City Eye, (a local community filmmaker’s organisation) will screen premières of local films, alongside entries for their film competition which is being held in connection with the festival.
There will also be an arts market filled with the best in local culture (from fanzines to hand-made crafts) which will hold various free workshops for everyone to get involved in. The Park will become a gallery, and live illustration groups will be working away all over the Park throughout the day.
The organisation’s aim is to celebrate local arts culture, and create a dialogue between artists. Mac Ince, co-founder of EjectorSeat said: “There’s so much artistic activity in Southampton that is under the radar, we really want the public and other artists to take notice.”
Southampton’s Art House Gallery Caf! will be selling food & refreshments for all to enjoy on the day.
Only festival of it's type in Southampton, going to be good :T0 -

Not sure if this counts as headline acts are ticketed - but the vast majority of stuff to do is free and no fence etc:
http://www.broadstairsfolkweek.org.uk/
Broadstairs folk week is something I go to every year. The bars and pubs by the seafront are full of free live bands and the promenade and bandstand is awash with buskers, artists, dancers, craft shops, workshops and so on. There's also a spectacular torchlit pagan procession (think wickerman). It's a lovely setting and a great festival vibe. You can choose to hang out and just do the free stuff or buy tickets for the more famous acts which come to town. Several campsites nearby to choose from.
You can choose to volunteer for 35 hours over the week in exchange for a festival pass and free camping.2015 wins: Jan: Leeds Castle tickets; Feb: Kindle Fire, Years supply Ricola March: £50 Sports Direct voucher April: DSLR camera June: £500 Bingo July: £50 co-op voucher0
