I'm buying this car but the number plate doesn't appear when I check in the DVLA database. I'm buying from a Ford dealer so should be legit but it's getting me a bit worried. Are there any genuine reasons why it wouldn't be in there?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Can't post link but reg is GF59 UZO

Not wanting to tell you how to suck eggs, but are you sure the Reg is correct? Is it a Ford?
  • Why not just phone up the DVLA and ask them about the car or ask the garage and see what they say.

Yes sure it's right. Tried numerous times. It's a ford focus from dagenham motors. Tried to post a link to picture but wouldn't let me.

Iterestingly if I put it in moneysupermarket for an insurance quote it finds it.

GF59 UZO is insured but the vehicle in question is listed as OTHER? i would check the log book against the vehicles VIN under the bonnet? if the vehicle was out of sort from a description to insurers then it wouldnt get insured surely? if you have doubts over the vehicle then get an rac or AA inspection done on it at the forecourt £120+ though so make sure your really interested in buying it before splashing cash out. all dealers wont mind this inspection if he starts asking why and oh i dont think necessary then leave it.

I tried the reg too, and you are correct.

If it's from a dealer I'd imagine it's legit, but I agree with Geordie_Taxi (surprisingly ;)), in that calling the Ford dealer would be worthwhile and see what they say!

Someone probably made a mistake when registering it, entering the make/model

It is listed on the ford etis site though, it's a focus 1.6 100ps built in Germany

Thanks for your help guys. Those details stack up with the car. I'm getting an independent check done so we'll see what they say.
