Booking Fee's on Cash Payments

I have recently purchased some concert tickets to see Michael Ball in Sheffield. I went in person to the box office and paid cash. You can imagine my shock to find that I was charged a 10% booking fee!! Does anyone know if this is legal. I cant believe that they can make money from me paying cash.

I would guess it is legal, since any business can charge what they like for their products?

Businesses have to cover their costs somehow.
Cash costs money to keep safe and bank (esp. if they have large amounts), and it is the same for cards, except they make payments to their card processor/merchant. Usually this is worked into the cost of the goods, but sometimes a business may choose to make these charges separate.

The face value of the ticket goes to the event promotor. Your booking fee would be to cover the costs of running the box office.
