Just after a bit of information for a friend, one of her parents will probably have to go to a care home, they have no assets except they own their property in joint names. Will the property be counted in any way (ie deferred payment) towards the care home fees, if the other parent still lives in the home? Thanks

No. The value of the house will be ignored.
Have a look on the AgeUK website for lots of useful information about paying for care.0 -
As Mojisola says above.
But the whole care home area is a mine-field, not just the fincial side but also evaluating/choosing etc, so do as much reading up as you can:

In particular look for homes with the appropriate expertise eg
* nurses as well as care workers?
* experience of dementia?
* ratio of staff to residents? By day and at night
* facilities0
