Afternoon. Great you are enjoying your time off Indie. Good luck with comps.

Sheils hope you have had a good journey today.

Yesterday we took SIL to Chartwell for lunch. It did rain but only a bit after we were back in the car. Many roads near there have trees with tops joining across the road so pleasant journey.

Today she has gone to her sister’s for a party. DD1 has gone with her but GS said he wanted to stay here. He keeps beating DH at Connect 4. We were supposed to be going to the park but it’s so heavy here feels like a storm is coming.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend,

    Morning Everyone,

I do not post a lot in here. I actually win very little . I had the pleasure of going to the This Morning Live as I won the tickets to go. Did a bit of shopping. Also included in the ticket was centre stage show with Eammon and Ruth and Rylan.

This was only my second win this year.

Back to work today. Weather looks dull and it feels cold.

    Have a good day everyone

    Morning everyone,

Had a lovely day yesterday visiting Dollar Glen and Castle Campbell although we had forgotten how steep the hills were! Visited DS2 and GF Was a shame DS2 had to work as we had meant to go out for dinner with them. We had a lovely meal at Beefeater though and a free bottle of wine using our points. Heading up to Inverness today using the scenic route through Glencoe and Fort William and along Loch Ness. I love seeing Glencoe, my favourite non water view in UK I think.

Your win sounds lovely I Love Comps. Not been winning much either although really happy with my Forest Holiday win.

Must get myself organised as DH studying map so he can argue with the Sat Nav!
    Good Luck all.

Good morning, happy World Bee Day all!

I hope everyone's in fine fettle on this glorious Monday! It's
dry & bright here this morning, after a little rain through the
    night.

Crikey leanfun, the last 10 days or so seem to have whizzed

World Bee Day | 20 May

The importance of celebrating World Bee Day

Observing World Bee Day on 20 May each year will draw attention
to the essential role bees and other pollinators play in keeping
people and the planet healthy. It provides an opportunity for
governments, organizations, civil society and concerned citizens
everywhere to promote actions that will protect and enhance
pollinators and their habitats, improve their abundance and
diversity, and support the sustainable development of beekeeping.

The date for this observance was chosen as it was the day Anton
Janša, a pioneer of modern apiculture, was born. Janša came from
a family of beekeepers in Slovenia, where beekeeping is an
important agricultural activity with a long-standing tradition.

The proposal set forth by the Republic of Slovenia, with the
support of Apimondia, the International Federation of Beekeepers’
Associations and FAO, to celebrate World Bee Day on 20 May each
year met with approval by the United Nations General Assembly in
    2017.

World Bee Day intends to shine a light on the habitat of pollinators
to improve the conditions for their survival so that bees and other
    pollinators may thrive..... [Cont'd] >>

If you’ve been residing under a rock or in ‘Game of Thrones’ exile
for the past month, you might have missed that fact that London
has been the focal point for the fight against climate change
thanks to the Extinction Rebellion protesters. And those green,
environment-loving vibes are set to continue into the summer.
Brent Council is getting ready to plant seven miles of wildflowers
to help London’s dwindling bee population.

A recent study has shown that more than 97 percent of the UK’s
wildflower meadows have disappeared since World War II. To
counter the effects of this floral decline, Brent Council in north
London is sowing 22 wildflower meadows in the borough’s parks
    and open spaces.

The council is ploughing plots that have been picked as meadow
areas and, once the ground is ready, seeds including ragged robin,
cowslip and common poppy are to be sown to encourage more
visits from pollinating insects (and brighten up the place nicely,
    too.) [Cont'd] >>

Grow a wildflower meadow, and create a lively feeding and nesting
ground for insects, birds and small animals.

The majestic flowers and grasses, bursting with colour, will be an
    attractive feature in your garden.

Our countryside was once full of meadows bursting with a
gorgeous variety of flowering plants, supporting butterflies,
insects, farmland birds and other wildlife.

But since the 1930s, we have lost over 99% of what are called
'unimproved grasslands', and those that are left are fragmented.
However, you can create something of the same feel in your own
    garden.

Preparing the ground and removing the weeds may take several
weeks, and you can do this at any time of year. But autumn is the
best month for sowing your seeds..... [Cont'd] >>

    Good afternoon all

    Phew! It's a warm day here, sun's still shining away & I
managed to do a bit of light weeding/general pottering
around this afternoon, then I had to come back indoors -
too hot outside to do much of anything really. Now sat
enjoying a cuppa after drinking a gallon of water, or
    thereabouts!

Had a beautiful forest walk this morning, lots of newborn
foals around - very cute. Also got some food provisions
from local shops & attended my appointment re having
blood extracted (or as my kids say ..... my annual
    MOT!).

The lady doing the bloods was really lovely but I was
astounded to hear that at least 4-5 people missed their
appointments and didn't even have the courtesy of ringing
to let the clinic know that they were unable to attend for
whatever reason. Makes me so mad - another reason why
the NHS is struggling! The lady thought it would be an
excellent idea for the NHS to start getting tougher with
these people such as introducing a fine (similar to Dental
appointments) & I was in full agreement. Bring it on!

You're most welcome indie re bee links. I love watching
    them too, always so busy!

Sadly, not good news for the bee population at present ...

    https://www.arkwildlife.co.uk/Wildlife/Post/158/Solitary_Bees.html

^^ Brilliant link re solitary bees - I've seen quite a few of these
    buzzing about in my garden.

Have a lovely evening all and please take care, whatever
    your plans.

Evening all. SIL is safely home in LA and we are home too. The Classic Lodge near Winsor was good. It’s quite in the country. We had a nice cream tea when we arrived on Monday and then SIL wanted to go out for a walk but the road had no pavement or verges so she decided it was too dangerous. She and I walked around the hotel grounds. They have some lawn with flower beds with lots of lavender with bees. The rest of the grass was to meadow with paths cut through. Alfie you would have loved it.

Dinner was a mix up on first night DH was tired and didn’t read the menu properly. He ordered lamb. But didn’t like the look of what was underneath it. So I stopped my vegetables with his which were very spicy. SIL ordered a different fish but without something Spanish. Her plate came full of potatoes which she doesn’t eat. Last night for DH and I we had brilliant meals. Win was great and SIL paid for our first night.
It was a good break for us as a DH still can’t walk very far. After dropping SIL off at Heathrow yesterday we went into Windsor and found a car park near castle we could hear the band for changing of the guard but just missed seeing them.

Back home I can’t believe it’s half term next week and DD2 is coming with little ones on Saturday night. So a couple of days to prepare.

Hope everyone is well and good luck.

    Morning ,

Glad you had a good holiday Leanfun30.
Sun is shining here today, so some washing will go on the line.

Need to be in work a little earlier today.
After work some cleaning needs to be done. Only today and tomorrow then a weeks holiday, as it is half term.

    Hi all,

Back home for little while. Enjoyed our Highland break although I am always amazed how many foreign visitors they get. I quite often feel we are the only British visitors in places!
Managed to see Ds3 for 10mins on way home. Gleneagles is really busy so all chefs are hands on today even doing jobs like peeling veg as the KPs can't cope. Wanted to take him his birthday present as he didn't make it home this year. Rushed down town to vote when we got back - walked as it was such a lovely afternoon. Sun is still shining away.

Glad you had a good time leanfun. Agree it can be difficult picking from strange menus. I quite often fancy what DH has ordered when I see it.

Hope everyone has a great half term when it comes. We only have Bank Holiday Monday here in Scotland as our kids have exams in May because of the earlier summer holidays. Always thought it was a nice time to have off especially if going abroad.

    Good morning

Think ancient lappy has finally given up the ghost. Tried to post
yesterday, but he wasn’t having any of it. After struggling for
    hours I eventually gave up.

I can use iPad for comping but dislike using it for posting. Have

Morning, glad you had a good break, leanfun and sheils. You certainly had the weather for it. I had a busy day yesterday, son had his op then nephew dropped in for a visit then had to go food shopping. The op went ok, he had some biopsys taken and has a mild form of Crohns so at last we are getting somewhere. The biopsys will take 4-6 weeks to come back so we will have to wait and see what they say. I need to pop out and get some wood glue later as cupboard in kitchen need repairing.Hope you all have a lucky day.

Morning cooler here today but still bright.

Sheils great you enjoyed the highlands. Would love to be going there again.

I Love Comps hope you enjoy your week off work.

Indie so pleased there is some movement on a diagnosis for your DS but not so good to hear Crohns do hope it is extremely mild. Hope you have managed to repair your cupboard. You sound very busy.

Alfie sorry your laptop has finally given up. Hope you still pop in. Not seen any laptop comps lately but you never know.

Bedmaking and shopping here. Although we do have a freezer full of food. We just need fresh food ready for DD2 coming.

    Good luck all.

Been a nice sunny day here but bit windy. All our washing is dry though.
Going to have a quiet week here. All my family busy working all week .
Poor DD finished her placement and got away a bit early so she could work at the fish restaurant at 4.30pm and got held up in holiday traffic. She only just got back in time so wouldn't have time to walk her dog or eat. Just as well I managed to walk her dog earlier. Think her BF would be home before 7pm though.

Hope your DS is ok indie.

Alfie I hope you find a nice new lappy.

Sounds like you are going to be busy again leanfun.

    Morning dull here this morning.

Just last minute things to do here before DD2 comes tonight.

Midweek I had a WEM that only had a heading didn’t say I’d won but when I looked up the sender it was from Older is Wiser and after contacting them I’ve won a cycle scarf
    From here
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=5990755&highlight=buff+coolnet+uv +neckwear

I also wrote an email to the person who sent the WEM about the night in hotel win thanking them and saying we enjoyed it. From reply I don’t think many say thank you as was recently said in other posts on here.

Yesterday I had a phone call from a friend who lives in the Lancashire. Her mother aged 91 died this month after being very ill this year. They had been caring for her in her own home until just over two week before she died when she was hospitalised and then transferred to a nursing home. My friend had been very upset that they could not have her back in her own home. However the nursing home was so good my friend could not praise them enough.
She was telling me that everything was straight forward dealing with her mother’s affairs. Except she wanted to be buried with her husband and apparently the plot had been bought by her grandfather and the law changed recently and the plot had to go through grand father’s estate. This meant forms had to be agreed by three relatives and one went on holiday. Fortunately it was only for a week and she now has funeral arranged.

Hope everyone has a good weekend whatever you are doing.
