  • Hi all,

So just to update, i've had some success on this one, receiving refunds from two companies out of 5 so far.

I've just received a third offer which was from Wonga of £892, which I think is more than fair and i've accepted the offer. Does anyone have an idea of how long Wonga take to pay out after you accept? Just i've got a few companies to ring regarding my own DMP in the next day or so and I might be able to ask for a full settlement figure using the Wonga money but don't want to get an offer and then not be able to pay it off.

P.S - it's took about 11 weeks for Wonga to get back to me, but they did update my several times regarding a delay but didn't respond to any of my queries - incase anyone else is still waiting for offers

Received my letter of receipt from Wonga last Friday, do I give them 8 weeks from then or 8 weeks from the day I sent my complaint to them (20/1/17) ?

    Thanks,

I based it on 8 weeks from complaint being sent, and I think that's fine if you want to forward onto the ombudsman after that time. However, I had several e-mails to say they were receiving a large number of complaints, and it took them about 11 weeks to make me an offer, but it was more than fair - probably the best first offer i've received. I'd imagine similar timescales will apply to yourself.

  • i had a payday loan with Toothfairy. I havent heard from the company for 3+ years and now a company called advanced collection systems are ringing me to recover the old debt. Are they empowered to recover the old debt please is anyone has any information it would be much appreciated.
  • Just had my first rebate come in for just over £800 from PD UK. About 4 months from my initial complaint, so happy with that.

My LS & PD Express complaints have been upheld but, LS have said they want the Ombudsman to make a final decision on this, hopefully it won't change too much as there is potentially £5.5k coming back. I know they have a back log, but hopefully by the end of the year it will be sorted.

  • My first success story!

I complained to Mr Lender and they initially agreed to wipe my balance of a loan I had set up a payment plan for. I said no and that I was getting to the ombudsman and they offered me £500 on top of that (but not as an admission they were wrong apparently). I could have got a bit more had I gone to the FOS and waited but this got me out of a tight spot and with the loan being wiped off as well it wasn’t a bad offer compared to how much I paid them. Accepting this one was the best thing for me to do at the time.

    Others in the pipeline

Wonga: With the ombudsman – I am trying to get to them look at loans over 6 years as it was a month on month decision. They initially said no but then offered me £193 on 1 loan. I am waiting to see if they will consider older ones
Quickquid – This is the biggie. I had over 30 loans in total. They said my loans were affordable. I am referred to the FOS at end of October and am awaiting their response
247moneybox – I had about 15 loans from these – they wiped my balance (not as F&F settlement) and sent me a nonsense letter which they sent to everyone so I sent this to the FOS a couple of weeks ago
H&T pawnbrokers – I sent my complaint in over the weekend and they have got back to me today asking for my account details. I borrowed and rolled over from them for about a year.

another offer through from QQ, we've gone from £1900 to £2100ish now to £2600 for 8 of the 17 loans I had within 6 years (constant roll overs). Still in queue to be allocated ombudsman as they didn't accept my adjudicators decision to uphold them all! I'd love it to be sorted before I go away in May but cant see it happening unfortunately.

I logged my complaint on 1st September 2016...

Big round of applause for all those working at FOS, who are absolutely bombarded with these complaints, when will the companies learn to handle complaints correctly and fairly!
  • Hi , i took Moneyshop (Cash Loans Ltd) to the ombudsman after they rejected my complaint as affordable.
I'd borrowed virtually every month for around 7 years, re-took loans the same day i cleared them.
Had one loan that took 5 months to actually pay back then took another same day.
Was already in default lots of places including PayDay UK their sister company.
They say they did credit checks but seen no proof, if they did they'd see they were unaffordable.
Last checks they did i have proof of ie wage slip was 4 years back and last 2 years i was on vastly reduced income and had a gambling issue.

My argument was they clearly didn't check responsibly or notice a pattern of borrowing 60 odd months in a row and that it wasn't short term lending at all.
I wanted the £400 balance written off from 2 years ago and default gone plus any interest i paid on the loans, around £1000 extra on top.
Took them months to respond to the adjudicator but now she has written stating Moneyshop have made me an offer to write off collection fees of £150 and reduce balance to around £250.

I'm not sure what to do, would the adjudicator tell me of the offer if they didn't think it was fair or advise either way? Seems derisory to me.
I feel my case was solid and put in a ton of evidence. Are Moneyshop hoping i go away for that small offer?
I'm thinking that for the sake of a £150 discount i might well ask for a final decision, but just wasn't sure whether me getting that offer was a hint from the adjudicator i shouldn't expect much more.

    Appreciate any advice.

    Hi James

Judging from what others have received and the stated criteria (on debt camel) for making loans unaffordable I would have thought you had a very strong case. As far as the adjudicator is concerned I would have thought they had a duty to inform you of any offer made even if they thought it was derisory
