PCN - Didn't park, my wife had to drive.

Good afternoon All,

I've just received a PCN from the council saying i owe them £35 for parking in a bus stop.

What happened was:

I was due in court for 10am. We left at 8am (30 mins drive) we got stuck in a tail back due to van being wrote off and blocking a lane.

Instead of having the time to go and park in the multistory car park she dropped me off in the bus stop to avoid blocking the single lane in town (at 9.47am). I was driving so i had to get out and go into court whilst she ran around the car and get in to drive.

We were stopped no longer than 20-30s. I feel this is a tad harsh... if i'd have done this in the middle of the road i would have got had no penalty, but would have caused a disruption... so taking the moral grounds to switch drivers in the bus stop to avoid that is going to cost me £35-£70.

I really dont have the money to be paying that right now so i'm hoping i have a leg to stand on if i contest it.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Tom

Take this to pepipoo for best advice

This forum majors on private parking invoices rather than proper council tickets

You know when you drop a passenger off, and the road is restricted with lines & bays, etc?

    CHOOSE:

    - a single yellow line

    - a double yellow line (YES, REALLY, THAT'S PARTLY WHAT THEY ARE FOR...)

    - a bay

    AVOID LIKE THE FLIPPIN' PLAGUE:

    - bus stops (yes they look inviting with a sort of lay-by kerb...yep, it's for buses)

    - taxi ranks & stands

    - goods vehicle loading bays

    - disabled bays

    - school zig zags (except in August)

    - zebra or other crossings

    - a dropped kerb/driveway

    - a corner or other obstructive place

    - double parking

    - red lines

    - double yellows with yellow kerb blips (no loading)

    - single yellows with a kerb blip (if in 'no loading' restricted hours)
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I didn't know cameras were a thing and it wasnt something i planned for unfortunately, we just had to do it sharpish so i wasnt late for crown court.

I'll just pay it if i have too, just seems somewhat harsh given the legitimate circumstances.

Never legit to park in a bus stop.

No idea why people don't know what single/double yellows mean, and use them for drop-offs.
