My porch smells of cat pee

At least I think it's cat pee. It's evil, whatever it is.
And it's a bit odd, because we don't have a cat, and the outer door is kept closed.
Thoughts about how I improve the smell? Or what it might be?

Not any more ... I used to insist that DS2 hung his school blazer up out there because otherwise it used to fragrance the whole house, but he's long gone ...Would there be any football boots or training shoes kept there?

I might be way off here, but would it be the roof is leaking somewhere and there was water leaking and making it smells a bit damp, that was a problem with my conservatory!0

I have a working hypothesis.
We keep the recycling boxes in the porch. They were out overnight on Wednesday, because it was Bin Day on Thursday.
DH has no sense of smell, so if something had peed in or against the boxes, he'd not have noticed when he brought them into the porch.
Going to have a clear out tomorrow ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I'd say a cat is marking its territory. Resistance is futile; put a little food out for it, install a catflap, and if you're really good it'll allow you to be it's human carers for life.

Never gonna happen! Not least because DH is fairly allergic. And anyway, I can't see how a cat could get in and out of the porch without us noticing. The door is kept shut - humans have enough of a job to open it when it's not unlocked!I'd say a cat is marking its territory. :rotfl: No. Well, possibly, but they'd have to weave their way up our garden path, in the dark, wrestle their way into the porch which may well be locked by chucking out time, and then find their way out again without us hearing.Is it on somebody's route home from the pub?
It would be MUCH easier to use the gates on the corner opposite us. They're slightly set back from the road, nice and private.
It's improved as the week goes on, so I'm sticking with my hypothesis of noseblind husband not noticing the smell when he brought the recycling boxes in. He has instructions to wash them out next time.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
