How to check for debts listed in my maiden name-advice please 11th Jan 19 at 1:13 PM
    Hello all,
Ive been contacted by a Debt agency working on behalf of a big name bank. They said i owe 900+ on a credit card in my maiden name and it was last acknowledged/card used last may. Im fully aware what my debts are but do not have any knowledge of this one. I have been married for 10 years and not lived at the address they are saying for over 6 years nor used a card with them. Its all a bit suspect, ive tried to ask for more details but i failed all security presumably because my names addresses etc are not what they think they are.
My credit report does not show this debt. My married and maiden names are both uncommon so im concerned about it being fraud or something.
Is there a way to run a credit report on my maiden name to see if anything shows up. I assumed it would be linked to my married name? Am i wrong? Any tips on how i can check a credit file for debts listed in my maiden name is appreciated.

As it seems to have defaulted over 6 years ago (if it's genuine), you won't find it on your credit files in either name.

Easiest to send them a prove it letter. Let them do the work.

    Hi,

If it were me, I would send them a 'prove it' letter with a CCA request tagged on to the end. An amalgamation of the two

Thanks. They were talking like a default has been sent to me in november 2018 but at a prev address and the account had been used last year. I told them in no uncertain terms i was not acknowledging the debt and wasnt happy about it. They eventually gave me a postal address to contact them so i can send a prove it. Ive checked noddle and am awaiting a report from equifax. i already reg access clearscore to monitor my accounts and nothing shows on there. Ive no intention of paying as i know for certain i dont owe them nor ever did. Its bugging me though as if its in my name how has it come about. A family member lived at our last house after we moved so i dont understand how if there was anything i didnt know. Anyhow i must calm down now and send of a proveit etc. Aaaargh. Thanks for the help.

Have you also checked your Experian credit report via MSE Credit Club?

Just checked it. It was an interesting read. Not sure if i did it properly as it showed none of my dmp debts at all ha ha. All defaulted less than 6 years ago so i Presume they should be on there somewhere. Ill have another play around. No sign of this new thing from today either thankfully
