I can hook you up with office 2007 pro if you like ?

Thanks, but according to Microsoft I need 2016 to be able to use Outlook. It was suggested that I might need to confirm the POP 3 and SMTP info, but I cannot find where these are, albeit when I go directly into my Gmail it tells me POP and IMAP are both enabled

It does seem to be a problem with my accessing my account as both Thunderbird and Outlook keep asking for my username and password for my Gmail account despite me putting in the correct ones. I have no problem signing in directly to Gmail with those details.

I just noticed i have previously helped you out with office 2010 ..

Was it a typo when you said you were using office 2000 ?
If so, theres no point downgrading to 2007 !

Not sure, it might have been Open Office, the copy I have is Microsoft Office 2000 Professional and consists of 2 CD's.

On reflection that was Word 2000 as I was/am having issues with that.

I have downloaded thunderbird, and whilst it has downloaded it won't allow me access as it keeps asking for my Gmail password, (as does Live Mail), but despite putting in the correct password, (I have signed directly into Gmail with this password OK), it keeps saying, "Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: Web login required: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/78754".

    .
Is there a particular reason why you want to use POP? Thunderbird supports OAUTH2 and IMAP for gmail.

The error message that sends you to https://support.google.com/mail/answer/78754 seems to suggest you have two step verification set up on your account. Either that or you have to change the "Allow less secure apps" setting in your Gmail when you sign in on the website as detailed above.

Forget the Office 2000 thing, its a red herring (and that version is so old its untrue, be a miracle if it works with anything these days).

I don't have 2 step verification, I tried the allow less secure apps, it made no difference so went back. as I have said, I can sign in without problems when going straight to the Gmail or Yahoo sites, it is trying to access via the forwarding application re Live Mail or Thunderbird as it keeps asking for my username and password, which I know I am entering correctly.
