For tea I had two crumpets, topped with a little of the L1dl chocolate spread that was on special price this weekend... while that's OK I prefer the more chocolatey taste of the 4sda cheapo choc spread.
No vegetables were harmed in the making of this meal0 -
Stirfry again for dinner - with courgetti this time.
My CBA excuse - somewhat tired after late night listening to music with friends yesterday.....
Early night in a minute - and try not to think about just how much money I've spent today on a pair of shoes. Don't ask....just DO NOT ask.....:rotfl::eek:
Did spend on another book that wasnt of the cookery variety this time as well. Might be one for many of us singles I feel.
Saw it recommended on a Facebook page of someone I'm Facebook "friends" with - she's going through a hard time and having to "stand up for herself" at the moment. She was recommended "Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for true belonging and the courage to stand alone" - Brene Brown. Quite appropriate - as she's a prominent Green campaigner that I've met a couple of times and who is a very gentle person.
Cue for me thinking "If it's good enough for her...." and duly sending for a copy for myself:)0 -

Good evening everyone,
I had a lovely time with my sis and friends, The pork & fennel meatballs with the lentil stew was really good and enjoyed by everyone. My friend brought a cake she had made for us to try so we had a trio of puds:D. I've very little left by way of LOs, my sis took the remaining tiramisu for my nephew so all I'm left with is a lonely meatball, a spoonful of lentils and a couple of slices of carmelised oranges. Most of our chat focused on my son's engagement party in a few weeks which the four of us are covering the catering for:eek:. Thankfully the venue will let us bring in hot food so it will be slow cooker central;), I think we have the 80+ portions covered and the cake and preparation schedule planned. The venue would have provided a buffet but it would have worked out really expensive for anything half decent or £6 a head for sandwiches & sausage rolls:eek:. We plan to feed everyone pretty decently for around £2-3 a head which I don't think is too bad. The cake is planned and I think my son and his fiancee will be delighted.
After it been so mild it has turned really cold tonight, the sky is lovely and clear so I wouldn't be surprised if there's a frost overnight.
I'm just off to load the disherwasher and then I'm for a cuppa and an early night.0 -
Sounds like you had a good day Caronc good food and good company what more could a person want
Good luck on the party prep, hard work but a real sense of satisfaction at the end of the evening, food made with love and maybe a large gin afterwards :rotfl:Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -
and maybe a large gin afterwards :rotfl:
My sis, friends and I like this sort of challenge and I baulk at what it would cost for the venue to provide similiar. My friends (one of whom is actually my second cousin) don't have kids but are very much of the view that it takes a village to raise a child so we have always all mucked in when it comes to catering family events over the years. With us all cooking it shouldn't be too difficult and folk like something hot, tasty & belly filling if they are drinking which I know this crowd will be.
My challenge though over the next couple of weeks is to clear the biggest shelf in my smaller freezer so I can stock up/pre make stuff. That's probably going to be the hardest part:eek::eek:0 -
It seems so dark out this morning... Not helped by the thoroughly miserable sky!
There's one more week of school, then it's half term. I then always notice after the half term, how dark it is in the mornings! The clocks usually go back around then as well.
Sort of awake since 4-ish today... Not unpleasant per se, but just sort of dozed. I feel like I might try and get an early night tonight.
No work for me until lunch time today. Then, all being well, I'll be at the same school all week, with a Year One class. Never been to this particular school before. From Google maps, it appears to be one of those old Victorian-era ones, which are always rather quirky, with odd-shaped classrooms and random stairs everywhere!
Then it'll be home for maybe an hour, then off to an hour of tutoring. Then coffee (actually, I'll do de-caff, or a hot choc) with a friend I've not seen for a few months at Starbucks. Probably home around 8. Makes for quite a long day, but looking forward to catching up with her.Because it's fun to have money!

Can we expect a book review later?
Well an ITRW friend who was told about the shoes just said words to effect of "Go on - hit me with it - just how much they were then and I'll try not to fall down".
Will try to remember re book review.
I gather the main concept is having the strength to stand up for what one knows to be right and not focus on taking the easy way out of deliberately trying to "fit in". A way of thinking I have a lot of sympathy with:rotfl: Having to stand up for oneself - because there is no-one else that will do so - is something that is pretty familiar to us singles....(ie no Him Indoors that will "deal with it" whilst we simper prettily). Apologies to the men on the thread here.....
I think I know who it is that is upsetting the campaigner concerned (who definitely is one of the most gentle people I've ever encountered and wouldnt hurt a fly - or, to be more exact in her case = a bee) - and I've met them as well (and I wasn't struck on them:cool:).
CARON - Hope the son's engagement party goes well. Lotsa cooking ahead all round....0 -
Good morning everyone,
Bright and sunny here though very chilly, I had to pop the heating on for half an hour before I could face a shower.
Money, hopefully the shoes will give you a lot of pleasure:D
flubberyzing hopefully the week will fly past and then you can get a break. It's half term here this week so good that the weather has picked up a bit.
I've not much planned for today but as it's so nice I'm definitely for a trundle round the block and maybe a potter outside. Apart from some laundry & tidying up I think that will be about it as I'm tired after the weekend.
LO meatball/lentils for lunch and chicken & roast veg for dinner tonight.0 -
Dull & damp morning, and it's turned a bit chilly as well. Def staying in today, like Caron, bit of laundry, [STRIKE]ponce about a bit [/STRIKE]tidy up and generally laze around
Apart from stare at the bottom pan of my steamer, got distracted & it boiled dry:mad: It's still in soak at the moment but there is no burnt pan fairy around in CFO land
Lunch is another BLT sarnie. The bacon is a pack I bought on offer in L's. not the best and I'll not do it again. It's the damp wet sort, could do with a wring out before grilling:(
Dinner, will be last of the LO roast beef, with a fry up of LO spuds & veg, plus LO mushy peas, using that lot will free up some fridge space ready for whatever I spot in L's tomorrowEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0
