From debt to freedom... 31st Dec 16 at 4:05 AM
For a couple of months I have been lurking and reading diaries which have been helpful and inspiring. I thought that I would start a diary to keep myself focussed on getting rid of the debts.

I am a working mum, recently separated from my husband. I have a large family which makes for an interesting and busy life! I have had a couple of LBMs in recent years and tried to stick to a budget. I had 2 loans totalling 17, 000 at one point. One loan was paid in Aug 2016 and the 2nd has just over 2,000 to go and is due to be paid off by August 2017.
Other than that, I have a cc with a 475 balance, 2 home improvement loans ( for double glazing) that both have about 1700 outstanding. These have a horrible interest rate of 22%, so I'm eager to tackle these first.

Today has felt more relaxed than the last few Sundays. After lunch I took DS1 for a drive to try and find the farm he'd applied to for the apprenticeship. At least he knows where it is should he get called for interview.

Fingers crossed he gets an interview!

My son is being kept on after his apprenticeship, his boss is upping his wage and paying for him to go to college one day a week.

That's encouraging for him. Is your son's apprenticeship a 2 year one?

I feel more in the dark over apprenticeships but am amazed at the variety of positions advertised. One has a closing date of mid May so a little wait but the other closing date was Sunday. So am hoping DS1 will hear something even if it's a no.

Resisted the temptation to go to Mr T's today. DD3 had a cooking lesson so came home with a quiche she had made, which teamed nicely with a jacket potato and salad.

The plants are coming on in the greenhouse. I think the tomatoes will be ready to plant into larger pots and to start staking to a bamboo cane. The courgettes have all germinated and growing true leaves now. I could just do with a dry couple of hours to get a bed or two ready to plant the seedlings out soon.

My sons apprenticeship could have been 2 years but he's opted to only do 1 as the pay is so poor.

It's only 3.50 something an hour - so he would be 19 and a half and only earning 500 a month still at the end of his apprenticeship- it's such rubbish money. A 16 year old could get a job and earn double that working in a pub!!!
