Am I right in thinking this is for the cambridge diet? Seen a poster on the wall in my GP saying they provide a letter for this at a cost of £25.

I don't understand why this letter is needed either - can't you see that it is an odd request that you obtain this letter first?

the wording has to be quite specific as far as i'm told - it literally has to be "jason is suitable for a calorie controlled diet which will not present any medical problems and which can be achieved without resorting to surgery" - basically that I will start, and follow, the diet program and not immediately go out and book myself in for a gastric band.

Your GP can’t guarantee that you will stick to the diet - that’s your responsibility.

If i'm able to obtain such a letter then I will be sticking to the diet.

It's not for the Cambridge Diet either.

I'll leave it there for now though. Thanks for the replies.

That's not the point - a GP can't sign to say that you will do because he/she can't control your behaviour.

Whoever it is who wants this signed should be getting you to make the commitment and sign the official paperwork.

Much as the OP doesn't want to discuss further I'm guessing clinical trial and money changing hands

    You'd be guessing wrong.

Without actually knowing what you're asking your GP for and why I don't think anybody can give you much insight as to why they might not be willing.

You'll probably have to pay for a private GP.
