Be aware that at the end of this hearing test, they will almost certainly be attempting to sell you a hearing aid.

If you just want to check whether or not you have a hearing loss, you can take a simple test at home.

My advice is ALWAYS try the NHS options first. If you're willing to wear one, but don't like the NHS options or don't find them good enough after repeat visits, by all means go private. But don't go private if your hearing aids will then just sit in a drawer.

It has taken multiple attempts to find an ear mould which suits me on the NHS. But it's been worth it.

    Great advice, Savvy_Sue.

I don't want anyone in my home who might be wanting to sell me something. :(

By the way, DH had a free hearing test in Boots: we went for the 'full works' rather than the basic. At the end they recommended something costing a few £K but there's been no contact with them since, so he has perfectly adequate ones from the NHS.

How long to get an appointment on NHS?

Won't it depend where you're located?

If you don't want to wait and go through the NHS, you can always go to one of the places who do free ear tests.
    Boots or Specsavers for example.

I'd view someone coming to my home to give me a hearing test akin to asking for a quote on double glazing.
i.e. I'd be very careful who I asked to come.

And possibly your age, and possibly who has the contract.

I went onto the 'young people's list' because I was still working. And in some places a well known chain of opticians is contracted to provide the NHS service. One of my siblings has found that very good.

Fortunately I don't have a hearing impairment. Just wondering what your NHS waiting time was.
